So I got my new School Tax bill today....are anyone else's taxes this insane?
I just want to bang my head against the wall looking at my tax bill 
We bought our house in April 2006 in Merrick (N. Merrick school district) and since than our taxes have gone up approx. $2,500  and my kid isn't even in freakin school yet. This is just insane to me. I feel a little relief b/c we applied for and got STAR this year and got a big $1k rebate.
I went to mynassauproperty.com to look at the tax history for my house:
Tax year 2005: $6,585.50
2006: $6,650.66
2007: $8,140.18
2008: $8,480.77
2009: $9,047.28
At this rate by the time DS goes to kindergarten our school taxes will be $15k
It is annoying b/c it seems like there is nothing we can do about it. And YES, my school district is one of the districts that hired back that attorney that was in the news for collecting multiple pensions from multiple districts
Are anyone else's taxes increasing like this or just ours?
People claim that education in America is free and it's not b/c I am sure as hell paying to live in a good school district!

I live in Copiague which doesn't have the greatest "famed" school district, and when I bought the house in 2002 the taxes were $7,100 w/out star, and now they are up to $9,900 with the STAR. $ 10,600 without

Mine are $6,143. In 2005 they were $3,897

We didn't get ours just yet but I looked up on mynassauproperty.com & saw that our school tax $690!!!!!
Since we bought our house in 05, our total taxes went from $9500 to close to $12K....
