So how successful is ...

IUI? Is it any better than just BDing? We are trying to overcome low motility and we go to the doctor next week for our second visit. If his counts are still high then I think she is going to recommend IUI and send us to an RE (this is his fertility urologist).
Does it work? What are the success rates? I am soo nervous about this next step.

Re: So how successful is ...

I got pregnant on my first IUI. It didn't have a good outcome, but still, it worked the first time.
My DH has some motility issues also. IUI is great for that because it puts the sperm up where it needs to be, so they don't have to swim as far. Also they wash the sperm to get the best ones. Ours went from something like 40% motility pre-wash to 87% after wash.

My DH has no SA probs but when I ovulated (after 3 months on Met/NO Clomid) I wanted to do everything possible to ensure that the one egg I had got fertilized. So, we did the IUI (and also BD like jackrabbits Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ) and I got pregnant. I am now just about 14wks along. Lots and lots of luck to you!!!!!! By the way.......if you do the IUI it's a quick and painless procedure. My DH went in around 7:30 and dropped a sample off to be "washed" and I went in around 9:00 for the IUI. The whole procedure took about 5-7min. and it pretty much was no worse then getting a pap smear. After the IUI they prop up your hips and leave you for about 15min. They told me to test in 2 weeks...........of course I was inpatient and tested in 10 days but I did get my BFP!! Again, lots of luck to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: So how successful is ...

We just had our first IUI and DH's motility after "wash" was 95% which they said was wonderful.

IUI can definitely help correct mild male factor IF problems and increase your chances of pg. It is a quick and painless procedure usually done the day after you get your +OPK. HTH! Chat Icon

ETA: Are you going through any fertility testing also, or just DH?

I conceived my DS on our 3rd IUI/Clomid cycle- At the time age 30, with mild PCOS, so yes, it can and does work!!!!...This time around, we arent so lucky, had some failed IUI cycles and have moved on to IVF but lots of people get BFP's with IUI- Good Luck !!!!

So far we just went to a Urologist for Dh because we suspected (and were right) that there were MI problems. We kind of did this on our own and my OB is still in the dark( I know that is stupid but I really hate my OB and plan to use a midwife as soon as I get PG so I just don't want to go through finding a new one if I will have to see an RE anyway... KWIM?). I got a script for the SA from Dh's regular doctor and once we got the results we called the Urologist on our own. He has two varicolecles so we are waiting to hear the results of the second SA and the scrotal sono to see exactly what our next step is.

I had a m/c last October and it went on and on sooo I had a TON of sono's and bloodwork and they confirmed that I had O'd after the m/c and that all seemed good. I do want to get progesterone levels done ASAP after I get a BFP to make sure that is all cool. I assume that if the Urologist thinks that IUI is the way to go that she will refer me to an RE or someone??? I really have no idea and I am just kind of taking this step by step. Is an RE the one who will do the IUI or it some other kind of doctor? I guess I will let that Dr. determine if she wants to do tests on me. So far I am pretty regular give or take 2 or so days. I have 29-30 day cycles and I use OPK's so I am pretty sure I am Oing. Plus I was pg once before.

Sorry that was so long winded!
