It's unbelieveable how it was NEWS CORP that would not agree to binding arbitration.

Because they know they can stick it everyone with football and the world series.

FOX says no to arbitration:

"Binding arbitration would, unfortunately, reward Cablevision for refusing to negotiate fairly and will only ensure that more unnecessary disputes arise in the future," Fox said in a statement. "Direct business-to-business negotiation is the only way to resolve this issue, while also preserving the long-term stability of the broadcast system. We continue to negotiate and are committed to putting all our resources towards reaching a fair resolution."

Translation: We know we would lose and get less money because we are asking Cablevision to pay more then everyone else.

Cablevision was one of the last providers to offer this type of service without a cable box anyways. FIOS never offered this. There is also still a possiblity you may get your basics if you have a digital tuner (like ATSC or QAM).

Cablevision will, however, be charging roughly twice as much as FIOS for every basic converter box. Their cheapest option is about $7.00 a month. FIOS has an option that's about $3.00 a month. We have a few small auxillary TV's that we use that don't need all the bells and whistles but it's nice to have them. I don't need DVR in the kitchen, and DH has a TV in his office, and in the finished basement bar area. They only get used a few times a month, but it's nice to have it. Not for $7.00 a month each though. For us to hook up all our TV's with a box will cost us an additional $300 a year with Cablevision - for the same service. They are already charging for the incoming service - they should SELL a small converter box instead of making you rent it every month, or come up with some sort of affordable option if they want to keep customers. As it is, we'll be giving up some of the convenience of having TV's in our guest room, home office, etc. if they want to charge us monthly to have the option on standby.

You will still be able to get your free broadcast basic channels without a cablebox using an ASTC or QAM tuner though. My TVs are QAM capable. I'll get 2-13 on all my auxuliary TVs without a box. Can FIOS do that?

Cablevision is also giving you up to three cable boxes FREE for a year. That lowers your overall average cost.

I don't see how people can be up in arms regarding needing cable boxes now... when their competitors required boxes in the first place. And you can STILL get 2-13 for free with broadcast basic. Chat Icon

Exactly!! Newscorp got lucky that their contract expired during football season and right before the World Series and they know it! They are taking total advantage of the situation.

I still heart cablevision. I pay less than my friends who have Fios etc . This inconvenience just means more credits and freebiesChat Icon

my bill for fios was cheap a first but compareing the two companies is night and day. i rather pay a tad more to have pleasure in knowing my DVR will record something and when i press guide or change the channel, it happens a tenth of a second later.

I have no issue like posters mention so mute point for me. I go with whoever is cheaper. TV is the least of my worries.
