So DS needs a DOC band. OPINIONS wanted about decorating it and holiday outfit! Long - Update

We just confirmed yesterday that DS needs a DOC band (aka baby helmet). He'll wear it for 2-3 months, so this means he'll have it on for the holidays. I am ok with it now - I was really upset about it before his appointment, but I think I came to terms with it, so when it was confirmed, I was fine for the most part.

The DOC band is used to reshape the head (DS's head has some flatness in the back and because of that has grown more on the sides, so this will help correct that issue). What causes this? Partly it's because of the Back to Sleep campaign, he's always on his back. But he also spent a lot of time in his inclined rocker (even though we did use the noggin nest) and the bouncer, especially due to reflux. He HATES tummy time and once he started rolling, it was so hard to get him to stay face down. Add the fact that he was a preemie (the skull hardens in the last 10 weeks in utero; DS was born 8 weeks early so when he was born, his head was more susceptible to being reshaped)... put it all together and we have Brachycephaly Chat Icon

So, the DOC band comes in white and I want to "pimp" it out a bit. We were told we could use acrylic paint, so I'm going to try to paint the whole thing and then add some cute decals or stickers. What I wanted to do was maybe paint it navy blue or marine blue and then maybe put Mets and Chicago Bears stickers on them (fav. teams). But now I'm thinking to keep it more universal since he'll have it on for the holidays, so that's my dilemma.

If I can, I would still like to paint it all one color. If I stick to blue, will that look funny with his holiday stuff? I plan on having him wear red for the holidays and maybe some winter white.

I know this is like the dumbest question ever, but since he's already going to have to wear this thing for 23 hours a day for up to 3 months, I really would like to make the most of it and have him look as cute as possible while wearing it.

I also thought to paint it black and add stickers in a lighter color, but thought maybe it would look bad... then I just saw this picture and maybe that's a better option:

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Any would be appreciated!

I want to get this planned out before he gets it (in a couple of weeks) so that I can have everything I need ready once he gets it.

OMG, just wanted to update. I just spent my lunch hour looking up info etc. and thanks to Karin for posting that there's a FB page, someone on there posted about a company that does custom "wraps" for the DOC bands.

I just called them and the owner of the company does these for FREE!!! I'm so excited I could cry! I was already worried about painting the thing and making it look as nice as possible. I guess I have to pick a theme now, but the guy was SO nice on the phone and he said if I give him a theme idea, they can send me examples I can choose from!

I don't want to do anything like Disney for him (we're not into anything specific with him yet)... I'm thinking maybe revisit the idea of the football/sports helmet look? I'm still not sure about that because of the holidays. Ugh! Any ideas?
