so annoyed, though i am not sure if i have a right to be...(just a silly vent)
we had dinner with DH's parents tonight for my birthday.
(forget about the fact that i didn't get to pick the restaurant and even though i said something to DH we ended up going to a place i do not like - and if you know me it is rare to find any kind of food i don't like  )
okay sorry for the tangent.
so the whole time we were eating MIL was leaning over me and basically screaming into my ear while she was talking to DS in her ridiculously high-pitched baby voice. even DH said she was "a little out of control"  plus she was doing this while i was trying to feed him so he wasn't paying attention and got food everywhere 
the worst part (in my mind anyway) was that she kept calling DS "Grandma Boy"
um, what is that?
yeah, i know, i'm overreacting and i should be grateful that she loves DS and takes such an interest in him.
but come on - he has a name, a few nicknames even. in my mind "Grandma Boy" is weird and creepy and i don't like it.
she actually used to call DH "mama" when he was a boy - and occasionally still calls him that. 
go ahead, tell me i am being ridiculous.
but i REALLY don't like it.

"Grandma boy"? My parents are OBSESSED with Christopher and they haven't come up with that one yet
I do think Grandparents can be silly tho. My dad calls Christopher "Juney" as if he was a Junior...um, he is a III

nope. Totallly see your point. My MIL calls JAZ "my baby".
"Ok, kiss my baby for me"
"Tell my baby I love him"
Um, yeah last I checked I gained the 37lbs and got sliced open, NOT you.
So, I can see your side. And that high pitched baby voice, could it be more annoying.

kate if you heard the things that they call their dog you would be 
(i don't know how to spell it but it comes out sounding like "boo-gee-gee" )
the dog's name is bailey.

I completely understand.
MIL likes to call DS "My baby" and it bugs the living daylight out of me. But like you said, it's better to have a grandma who loves him so much than to have the opposite!

Awwww...... Grandma Boy. Consider yourself lucky- my mom called my nephew (KeithHernandez's son) "Poop". WTHisTHATallabout? She also called him her "Little Cootchie Frito" when he was tiny.
She also calls:
my other nephew Jake, Jake O' Lantern.
My DD Madelyn: Miss-Mouse-in-the-House
She hasn't graced my youngest daughter with a name yet. I am terrifed, yet anxiously awaiting what she comes up with.
I think my mom might be a crackhead.
Sorry for the tangent....
ETA: My MIL- who is the sweetest lady on the planet insists on calling Eliza, "Liza", which drives me batty. I guess because I see those as two different names.

maybe i'll be the odd one out on this one, but I don't see it as a reason to be annoyed; maybe because it is done in my family.
We are a pretty close-knit family & i sometimes refer to my nephews as "my boys" just like my mom reffered to my DS as "her little man". They are my loved ones and family, something that is irreplaceable and they have gone way out of their way to help me and be there for me, just as I would for them. So for them (and myself) to show their love in this way, just reassures me how close we are as a family & how strong our love is for one another. I loved how proud my mother was to be a grandma (or "Nanny" as the grandchildren used to call her), she loved every second she got to spend with her grandsons, they were the light of her life.

Yeah- the poor kid was like 6 and my mom would say it and he'd and say, "NANA~ why do you CALL me that?!" In her defense, it was a shortened version of her original masterpiece: Poop-a-doop.
