snugride vs. safe seat?
What are the pros and cons of each? I originally registered for the snugride but now am second guessing myself since the safe seat holds up to 30 lbs and the snug ride is like 22.

Re: snugride vs. safe seat?
I have the safeseat. DS was in it until he was over a year, which I liked, but he got too big for me to carry him around in it by the time he was about 9 months. The SS is bigger and bulkier, but it lasts longer -- so there's the tradeoff. I have read on other carseat boards that the SS is much easier to install than the Snugride, but I've never installed the Snugride, so I really don't know.

I have the safe seat and Ds is 13 months and abt to leave this seat behind. I love this seat because i was able to use this long even though i didn't carry him in it.

I can't remember why, but I do remember reading in Baby Bargains they preferred the Snugride vs. Safe Seat.

The whole Consumer Reports crash test drama where a whole bunch of infant seats failed. At first they said only the Snugride and Flex Loc passed. The Safeseat failed but then Consumer Reports retracted their study. I have the SafeSeat and like it. So far so good.

There was a Consumer Reports study that found the Snugride to be the safest infant seat available. The study was eventually retracted...but only because it was done at high speeds like 70ish, instead of the normal 30ish speed studies are done at. We went with the Snugride for that reason...I drive a lot closer to 70 most of the time! It's a great infant seat! And as far as the SafeSeat being able to hold the baby until a heavier weight....by that time, you won't want to carry them in a a seat any longer!
