Re: Snow Day
Unfortunately that will never happen because we all have the ability to work from home in my company so it could be 50 feet of snow and we'd still have to work- just from home. Our business never stops

This is my office but I'll still take it. They actually shut my DHs job down for tomorrow which is shocking. I've never seen them close a job a day before.

Ours doesn't either, but last snowstorm everyone worked from home and the VPN server crashed.
I can't work from home. TPTB decided I didn't need a laptop. Their loss.

Mine is like that too however they never issued me a laptop so I will not be working. I definitely will not be driving in to the office

Snow Day
I am working from home Tuesday int he snow and I was scheduled to work from home on Wednesday anyway so now I only have to commute 3 days this week and then I am out of work until May.
This storm is making me happy since its one less day on the LIRR.

Ours too. We decided early this morning to make the announcement that both offices would be closed tomorrow. I then had to remind everyone that a closed office didn't mean a day off -- it meant work from home.

Well then what is the point of being closed? Way to suck the life out of a snow day

It's because our customers don't stop working because it snows. We have customers and coworkers all over the country and the world actually. They don't shut down because there is a snowstorm in the North East. Our business actually involves selling and implementing the technology that ALLOWS people to telecommute. In this day and age, there is no need to physically be in an office. So life goes on. No matter the weather. As long as you have power, you can work. We can't stop business because it's snowy out. Hell most people even glance at emails when away on vacation- well managers and executives at least. The point of being closed is so that people don't have to drive on dangerous roads to an office.

Same. I hate when everyone is so excited for a snow day. I'm more stressed b/c DH has to keep going out to clean the snow. I have to actually work. And we have to entertain 2 little children.

This. We are in a global industry and all have the ability to work from anywhere, just like our clients. Snow does not mean that business stops -- though I wish it did. Our local clients will be much quieter tomorrow since they will be affected by the snow too, but clients everywhere else it's business as usual.
The joys of modern technology!

Dh was just complaining about this. There is no snow days for adults any more. Everyone is expected to work from home and clear the snow.

Yeah unfortunately, working from home is a blessing and a curse. I'll take it though. I'd rather work the two snowdays of the year and be able to just stay home throughout the year whenever necessary than not work the two snowdays but be less flexible throughout the year.

Agree. It sure is nice to work out on my patio by the pool on a lovely summer day so I 'll take it. I would get bored sitting home all day doing nothing in when it snows anyway, so working is a nice distraction

My job is also closed tomorrow but it is expected that we will work from home. It should be interesting trying to manage that with two kids running around. Luckily this is a slow period at my job right now.
