Slow Cooker Recipes
After todays cold weather, I broke out the slow cooker. Anyone have any suggestions on what to make in it?

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
Beef Stew
2 lbs stew beef (I browned it first, but you don't have to)
1/2 Vidalia onion cubed
2 lb baby carrots
2 lb cubed red potatos
Handful of celery if you like it.
Place beef in slow cooker, top with veggies, pour 14.5 oz can of beef stock.
Cook on low for 7 hours. I thicked with a roux of 1/2 cup milk and 3 tablespoons of flour one hour before it was done.
I made this today and it was great

I love my slow cooker!
My favorite (and easiest) recipe
Salsa Chicken Chicken cutlets Jar of salsa (any type)
Put chicken and salsa in the crockpot - cook all day! Right before I serve it, I put some shredded cheese on top - maybe 5 mins before to let it melt - YUMMY!!!
Pot roast: Beef (bottom round - or roast beef - ) Can of Beef broth Carrots cut up Sliced onion potatoes (I have used white or sweet)
Put all ingredients in the slow cooker - cook all day - YUMMY! Everyone here -kids, DH - love this one!

I have just served it as is - with a vegetable like string beans or broccoli and a salad -
OR, I have also made fajitas with the meat - putting it on warmed tortillas with some chopped tomatoes, sour cream - YUMMY!!!

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
One more recipe - actually in my crock pot as I type - LOL!
Chicken and dumplings (YUMMY) 1 can of cream of chicken soup Chicken cutlets Water/milk
can of refrigerated biscuits
Put chicken in the crockpot, add cream of chicken soup (you can use healthy request if you'd like) and add 1/2 can milk, 1/2 can of water. Let it cook all day.
About 15 minutes before you are ready to serve, cut apart the biscuits, and place them in the slow cooker. (I know it sounds funny - but it works! Trust me!!)
Serve with a veggie - YUMMY Just like chicken and dumplings!
Enjoy! :)

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
I make the sausage and peppers recipe posted above and I love this split pea soup recipe:
Split Pea Soup
Ingredients -16 oz dry split peas -2 cups diced fully cooked lean ham -1 cup diced carrots -1 medium onion, chopped -1 potato chopped -2 garlic cloves, minced -2 bay leaves - 1/2 tsp salt - 1/2 tsp pepper - 5 cups boiling water - 1 cup hot milk
Directions:
1. In a slow cooker, layer the first 9 ingredients in order listed (do not stir). Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until vegetables are tender. Stir in milk. Discard bay leaves before serving.
eta: I used veggie broth instead of water

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
i'm notebooking this, as the only thing i cook in my crockpot right now is pulled pork (which is super easy, its just pork with a can of root beer, cook for 6 hours on low then drain, shred pork, and add a bottle of bbq sauce throw back in for another hour) all of these recipes sound delicious!

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
Buy chicken and your favorite BBQ sauce.
Combine the 2 in slow cooker and cook for as long as you want.
BEST BBQ CHICKEN EVER
I also did this with ribs once. JUST WOW.
Everything just falls apart and melts in your mouth.
I recommend Famous Daves BBQ sauce. It's really tasty and it has a little kick!

Question: Do you need to add the milk to the Split Pea Soup? I wonder if you have to add it?

Re: Slow Cooker Recipes
I haven't either but the recipe sounds like a good one. I did make Turkey Chili the other night and it was a cinch...
Browned Turkey meat that I sauteed with onions - whatever 97% free (I had it frozen)
In crock pot I threw in:
Browned Meat/ Onions 1 can drained black beans 1 can vegetarian baked beans 1 can hot chili beans V8 to taste - I used some hot and some low sodium 1 small can tomato paste 1 chipotle pepper in sauce Chili seasoning to taste
All other seasonings are to taste...if you like it hotter, add more chipotle. I let it cook for a few hours. It gets better each day.
I also add cilantro on top when eating. It's so thick and yummy it would be great over a baked potato or brown rice.
You really don't even need the meat if you are vegetarian.
