Slightly paranoid... UPDATE

Chat Icon hasn't been moving as much in the past few weeks. I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and everything seemed fine, but I'm lucky if I feel him once a day. He's VERY low and when I do feel him it's towards my butt, so there is a chance he might be facing my back and that's why I can't feel him. I don't want to be overly paranoid, but I don't want to not say anything and have something bad happen. Anyone else have an inactive LO?

ETA -- I'm 30 weeks.

UPDATE

I took your advice and called the doctor today. They told me to come in asap so I could have a sono and an NST (I think that was what it was called).

Baby looks great Chat Icon He's measuring in the 50th percentile with everything (he's 3 1/2 lbs) and his heart rate is good. They said he was moving around a lot during the sono, but I couldn't feel it. He's breech (with time to turn) and kicking in a way that is hard for me to feel.

During the NST scan, they hooked me up to a monitor. They monitored my contractions (had none), his HB (strong), and I had to press a button every time I heard him. What a difference laying on my back makes! I was able to feel him a decent amount, but a few good kicks got past me (the machine spiked when he made a big movement) so I guess they were just in places I couldn't feel.

Doctor wants me back on Friday for a follow up, but it looks like he's fine. I'm actually starting to feel him a little more now -- I guess something they did when they pushed on him moved him enough that he's back to kicking where I can feel more.

Doctor said I did the right thing by calling and next time to try kick counts (drink OJ or eat some candy and lay on my back counting kicks until I get to 10). She said it should take no more than 2 hrs to get to 10, but ideally 1 hour. I'm just relieved to have piece of mind that he's okay!

Thank you for the responses!!!!

I'm 28w and baby is very low, too. But, I feel him all the time. I don't think you're being paranoid at all! I'm sure everything is ok, but if there's a noticeable decrease in your LO's movements, I'd definitely err on the side of caution and call your dr.

Re: Slightly paranoid...

i never get a straight answer from the nurses. they tell me if i dont feel a certain amount of movements within a few hours to call. then in the same breath they tell me that i have to use my judgement based on what i know is normal for my baby, and not to compare.
i'd call. there could be a reason you dont feel him as much anymore based on his positioning but it cant hurt to call and tell them how infrequently you feel him now.

last time i called the nurse to tell her about decreased movements, i waited 3 days and got yelled at. dont wait that long!

Re: Slightly paranoid...

I definitely suggest getting checked out but here's something you can do also. I was told to do kick counts. Drink a glass of water and / or walk around a bit. Lay down, get comfy, you may want even lay on your left side. Start from the first kick or movement and count them until you get to 10. Every movement counts. You chould get to 10 by 1 hour, 2 the most. They had me do this everyday but I stopped after awhile. The baby is most active at night because your movements during the day cradle the baby to sleep. I noticed the movements were much lighter as the baby had less room to move. Whenever I got nervous I did this. Good luck! Please keep us posted that mom and baby are doing ok.

Slightly paranoid...

I'm always paranoid about movement. Some days I feel her like crazy and other days I don't feel her at all. The dr always asks me at every appointment if I'm feeling movement to make sure that I am, but the once or twice I called to say that I wasn't, all they told me was not to worry. So why ask me constantly if i'm feeling movement, but then just tell me not to worry when i'm not. I find it very annoying and totally frustrating... so I worry for weeks until my next appointment until I hear her heartbeat again

Re: Slightly paranoid...

I would be paranoid as well. I'm also 30 weeks and feel my baby constantly especially at night. Call the doctor and request to get checked. Better safe then sorry.
