Sleeping all night in swing
I am curious about what other women do. My 13-week old DS sleeps great at night in his swing. He has reflux and is overall happy in the swing. I also love having him in our room. However, the other post about babies rolling over and such got me thinking, is it better for his development to sleep in his crib? He basically sleeps all night strapped into one position. Is it better to sleep free, so he could move around?

Sleeping all night in swing
My DD has been diagnosed with gross motor delays, despite sleeping in the crib from 3wks - approx 6mo (she's now 7mo and stopped sleeping in the crib about a month ago, so we let her sleep in the rock n play. now we can't transition her back to the crib, but that's a different story). Apparently sleeping in the crib didn't help my DD, so I think it just depends on the kid.

we put twins in crib starting at 8 weeks. If you can start in crib now I would do asap...if not may have problems later.
Rsquared, My one twin also has motor delays. He is 20M & just starting to walk now. Are you in early intervention

Re: Sleeping all night in swing
I don't recommend it, based on our experience. First of all, we had the fisher price little lamb swing, which did not have a 5 pt harness. So about two times, I found my DD slumped over, very scary. But she had such severe reflux, that i had attempted it only to find it was not safe for her. In addition, she is 4.5 now and she has always been slower, seemed to lack muscle development, and never was a mover/climber and I wonder how much of it was due to her being in a swing or seat (again, during the day, due to reflux). She does not qualify for EI but I did have her evaluated and it still irks me that she is weaker than other kids her age. I am currently trying to build her strength up with climbing, running and swinging, and swimming.
So if you can avoid it, I would.

Re: Sleeping all night in swing
So would this be the same for sleeping in the rock and play? DD is only just over 2 weeks and right now she sleeps in there. I have no room for her yet and plan to move her to pack and play for a bit but she seems happy in rock and play so wasn't going to do it yet.

13 weeks sounds like a good time to transition to the crib. She will have much more room as she learns to roll over and scoot around. You can elevate the crib mattress if you're worried about reflux. DS has reflux and I just give him his Zantac right before bed and he never had a problem sleeping in the crib.

Re: Sleeping all night in swing
My DS had terrible reflux...to the point where he was gasping/choking on whatever was coming up...He slept in the RNP up to about 4 months..although it did take a week to transition to the crib, I don't regret it at all...the upright postition to me was more important. During the day he spent his time on the activity mat/bouncy seat/swing..
Today, he is 15 months, climbs up a full flight of steps, off of my high bed, into the tub, and runs like a maniac...
People gave their comments about putting him in the crib early, but I did what was best for me.....
Hope that helps!
(I also agree with previous poster, I too found ds slumped over in the swing, so be careful.)

I would suggest the rock n play if your concerned about safety.
My dd had reflux where she would choke on her spit up. I kept her in my room for 6 months then transitioned her to the crib. I had no issues at all. My dd may have rolled over a lil later than other children because she didnt and couldnt sleep flat but i would do is put her flat during the day so she can practice. She started to turn over about 5 months and really moving around when she got in her crib.
Im sorry for the women whose children have delays but I dont personally think you can 100% contribute it to a swing. I think there was already an issue there. And im not trying to be offensive thats just my opinion.
If your dc has reflux its safer and more comfortable for them to sleep on an angle. Your child may not be able to sleep at all flat. My dd couldnt and then it became unsafe. She was able to at 6 months when she outgrew the reflux.
I transitioned her first to the pack and play bassinet so we could first introduce laying flat but still be with us then i moved her to her crib. No issues at all. The first few days in the bassinet she woke up every 3 hours then the next night 4 hours and then fine no waking.
I might also suggest a crib wedge if you want her in her crib or if you have the pack n play bassinet attachment the crib wedge fits in there if you want your dc in the room with you.
My dd also has had no issues with fine motor skills. Motor skills or anything at all. She crawls walks climbs dances picks her food up and feeds herself. No delays at all.
