sleep regression at 20 months?

My DD just wont fall asleep on her own anymore... she cries and cries, It started the other night (saturday night) when we had the bad rain and wind.... she told me she was scared... she has a low light that radiates off of her humidifier, but I dont know what else to do.. she cries for 20 minutes a night... is this normal? I thought we were past the sleep regression, and I can tell she is tired...

Do I start putting her to bed later? Whats the deal??? any help is appreciated, as it is heartbreaking to hear her cry and ask for me every night...

Re: sleep regression at 20 months?

Is there maybe some separation anxiety going on? Or any other changes in her life, even something small that you might not have thought much off? The rain and wind were scary though.

I don't have personal experience with this at that age as DS is 14 months but he did recently go through a period where he would cry when i put him in bed. I told him it was bedtime and shushed a little from the door. If he still needed me after a few minutes I went to his room again and rubbed his chest or back, talked to him for a minute but left again. I wasn't in there more than 2 minutes bc if i was I know he'd cry for longer to get me to stay. It was thankfully a short-lived phase. GL!

Re: sleep regression at 20 months?

Thanks... I gave in tonight and took her into my bed, sang her a song, and rubbed her back until she fell asleep.. then i transfered her to her crib..

I have to be a bit stronger next time. There hasnt been anything different or anything to cause her to have anxiety... all I can think of is she is having separation anxiety.. maybe all of a sudden? who knows.... How bad is it going to be when I have my next DC in a few months?
