Sleep Issues at 7.5 months

DS has started having some sleep issues. It began a couple weeks ago with teething pain, then got worse this week. He has woken up crying every night this week, last night twice. He doesn't appear to be experiencing much teething pain right now. Nothing comforts him except a bottle.

He's eating a good amount of food and formula during the day IMO, but what's going on? Is this probably a growth spurt? Or does it sound like he's waking up and realizes now that if he cries Mom will get up and go to him? He is also having a lot of trouble getting to sleep which is also new. It almost seems as if he's forgotten (or doesn't want) to soothe himself.

He naps horribly, but he has never been a good napper. He has always been great at nighttime sleep though. Any thoughts?

TIA!

Re: Sleep Issues at 7.5 months

This sounds like how my son was. When he woke up in the middle of the night nothing could calm him down except for a bottle.

I was at my breaking point though of waking up in the middle of the night and just let him CIO. It takes maybe two-three nights but then he gets out of the pattern of waking. My son is also like clockwork - three nights ago he was waking at 3:06 every night. I let him cry it out and thankfully last night he slept straight through to 6:00.

CIO is what worked for us because I just couldn't deal with getting up anymore in the middle of the night.

Does he seem uncomfortable during the day with teething? On the days where my sons hand is always in his mouth I would give him a shot of tylenol before bed!

Hmmm, his hand is in his mouth a lot during the day and there is tons of drool, but he hasn't been crying this week (not over his teeth anyway).

I guess I'll wait out the week and see if the middle of the night bottles disappear. If not, we may need to CIO, though I think it will be a hard sell on my husband. But right now, this is barely affecting him, he's not the one doing the late night feedings.

So depressing. Just when you think they are sleeping really well....
