Sippy cups - Am i the only one that is completely frustrated

DD is 16 months - still will not drink milk for a sippy - whether is a cup or with a straw - i've been trying for days and she says no - takes sips and throws the bottle.

I can't make her go without her milk and she has been so cranky b/c she is wanting it. She does drink water and juice from any sippy no problem.

should i really stress about this? I mean is it really necessary she has to be off sippy's??

please help.

Also - what other foods do you supplement with besides cheese and yogurt if you child isn't getting enough milk.

I really appreciate it.

my son was going through this - what a pain!! after me holding it for while he took sips - it was a pain but that was the only way he would take it. Now after two weeks he is finally holding it himself. good luck - sorry no idea besides cheese and yogurt!

Ok, first of all, Ava gets NO milk because she is allergic, so it's important, but not nearly as important as you'd think. It's just one component of their diets, so don't stress over her not getting enough. You could even do calcium fortified juices, but as long as she's taking a vitamin, I wouldn't worry.
As far as the sippy, I posted this yesterday....
If she'll drink milk from the bottle, and not the sippy, give her both at the same time. Fill the sippy with milk, fill the bottle with 2/3 milk, 1/3 water. She'll probably only take the bottle the first day. The next day, give the same sippy filled with milk, but give her 1/2 milk, 1/2 water in the bottle. have her taste both. The third day, all milk in the sippy, but 1/3 milk in the bottle, 2/3 water. She probably won't even want it. On the last day, all milk in the sippy, all water in the bottle.

This is the method my mother uses with babies when she does feeding therapy and she said it works really well. Maybe it might work for you! Chat Icon

I'll have to try this.

DS is 22 months and he is still on a bottle. I've tried and tried but always gave in. He always drinks water in his sippy but if you try to put milk he refuses! He really loves his 2 bottles a day so I let him have it. I know I'll get yelled at at his 2 year aptChat Icon .

I know I am going to sound horrible, but give her a bottle if it makes her happy!

This is coming from a woman whose kid will drink anything so long as it is white, and he would drink from anything as long as he could extract liquid from it, but why not give her the option of her old favorite bottle and a sippy cup.

If you really are dying for her to get onto a sippy cup, ignore me.

This sounds like a great idea, we still give my DD milk from a bottle especially at night, our ped yelled at us but admitted if she isn't going to bed with it and I brush her teeth after she drinks it isn't that big a deal. But I do want to get her off them, so I think I may try this method myself! But I just wanted to say don't stress about it, she won't be drinking bottles forever, and it's not the end of the world to- 1. to be still drinking bottles or 2. to not get as much milk while she's transitioning, there are other ways to get the same nutrients.Chat Icon

If she takes water and juice from a sippy then I think you need to just put the milk in the sippy and wait it out. She may be cranky, but eventually she will see that you won't back down and if she REALLY wants it, she WILL eventually use it. She won't dehydrate herself.

Frozen yogurt was a hit with my son. Plus nowadays they have orange juice fortified with calcium.
