Bottle to Sippy Cups

When did you start giving your DC a sippy cup?

I read in my book (week by week 1st year) that at 21 weeks if they start showing interst.

Jiavana is 17 weeks. The past few days she has been so intrigued by our cups. She keep reaching for them and staring at them.

Earlier today DH was holding her and his cup and she put her mouth on it. So I filled a small cup up with a little water to see what she would do and she drank from it and loved it.

I know I wouldn't go to sippy cups 100% but maybe here and there. Is it too early for once or twice a day?

She took to the spoon and solids really well.

Re: Bottle to Sippy Cups

I think 4 months is a little early for sippy cups. Check with your ped.

At recommendation of our ped, Nate was 6 months when we started giving him a sippy cup with water. Most of the time he just played with it. He really didn't take to it until he was 10 months. He was 13 months when he was completely off the bottle and just using sippy cups.

I started about a month ago, so maybe 5.5 months. It's the ONLY way I can get water into her. She loves it.

We started giving Noah a sippy cup with water just to play with at around 7 months-ish, now at almost 1 he does drink juice from it...but we are struggling to get him to drink milk from anything other than a bottle. The kid loves his bottles!

Re: Bottle to Sippy Cups

We started the sippy cup at 5 mos and she wasn't too interested. Now that she is 6.5 mos she it getting the hang of it but I still have to tip it up for her so she doesn't get air. We use the Nuby ones and she seems to like it best. The spout is soft like a nipple. I give it to her with a little formula during her meals. She doesn't drink much from it but she is getting better.
