Single IUI vs. Back to Back IUI

What are your feelings ? Does your doc suggest one more than the other ? Which have you had? Do you think one is more preferable ? Does a b2b increase your chances significantly?

I did single-shot IUI.

MY RE seemed to think that the "great, fantastic, amazing sperm" my DH produced would survive for long enough.

Thanks for asking this... I have been thinking the same thing. I have my IUI tomorrow morning and part of me really wants to do B2B.

I am embarrassed to even admit thisChat Icon but some of the reasoning behind the question is work. The timing would work out to be mid week, which would mean I would need to come into work late, 2 days in a row. I know this may sound silly, but it really is a source of stress for me. I HATE lying, really, im just not good at it, I start stuttering and sweating, I turn into a HOT mess. So not looking forward to this. sigh

My RE pretty much only did single IUIs... he said that the second one doesn't increase your chances that much anyway!

My RE only did one because we had no male factor, DH had good swimmers and lots of them. I was the one who had the IF problems.

I had b2b both times and I think its just extra insurance that the fellas mingle and take it home. I know its stressful I do the same thing but on my lunch so I pray every time I can get a pkg spot and get in and out in an hour. My boss knows I have a MD appt but still has no idea what is wrong with me. I am bad at lying also. I just make it general I had a dr appt. I think they are afraid to ask me whats happening. Well if you have to do it just tell them in advance and lessen the blow.
Good luck w.your IUI!!! Chat Icon

I had both, b2b and single, but I didn't get pregnant with the b2b IUI. I did get pregnant with the single IUI, but ended in a m/c, so I believe it's all about the timing.

Re: Single IUI vs. Back to Back IUI

It took me 5 IUI cycles to conceive Abby. There were three pregnancies, 2 resulting in m/c's. ALL of the pregnancies were back to back IUIs. The one that resulted in Abby had be in for 4 IUIs. I did not fight it. When I had one of them on a Saturday and they did the sono right after the IUI, I hadn't ovulated. After the IUI the next day, I did.

I had b2b IUI's and got pregnant on our first cycle. I think it was becasue they wanted to catch the egg at the time of release and since they can't pin point the exact time of release they went with two.

Re: Single IUI vs. Back to Back IUI

This is how my dr does IUIs. You have the trigger and they tell you to come in for sono and IUI. If the sono shows that you did not ovulate yet, you come back again the next day for second IUI. I have read that B2B IUIs do not increase your chances of conceiving, however, I always felt better about doing it. More sperm waiting for the egg.

I have only had one IUI thus far, but my doctor said he does like to do back to back IUIs if possible. But he will only do one on the second day if the sono still shows the egg. When I had my first IUI the egg had already passed, so I didn't come back the second day for another go.

don't feel bad about that.. i had the same thoughts this past cycle when my RE suggested that i could do b2b iui's - when i hesitated (because i had been late to work 2 days in a row already because of testing and iui), she said don't worry about it, just BD that night instead.
I think it all depends on the quantity of sperm in the first iui.. if its on the lowish side they suggest doing b2b iui's to give you a greater chance. But if the count is high, they just tell you to BD that night

in the end.. you have to do what's right for you and as long as your dr agrees with you, you'll be fine
