Similiac Sensitive

My 2 week old DD was on Similac Advance (blue bottle) but seemed to be very gassy. She was always bearing down hard, grunting, turning red- after 2-3 days of seeing her in discomfort and gas drops not seeming to help, I mentioned it to the ped. He said we could try the Similac Sensitive. Switched to that last night- still seeing the gas issue but I know it can take time. However, she seems to be so much more hungry! She was at 2.5-2.75oz before- we upped her to 3oz and she still isn't lasting 3 hours between feedings. Anyone else have this experience?

It could just be that she's eating more now. Growth spurt? We tried my DD on sensitive, but it was b/c she had milk allergy and needed alimentum. She wasn't any hungrier though. She would grunt and arch while eating and spit up entire bottles.

Don't expect any formula to make a change right away...it can take weeks.

By 2 weeks my DS was at 4 oz a feeding so I would worry about how much...I am of the theory that they eat what they eat. There is no majic number and if my DS finished a bottle in a short time frame then I would give another ounce and see if he took that.

Also, I do not know very many people that had any success with the sensitive. Most people I know had a better success rate with the gentlease.

I switched from similac advance to enfamil gentlease, which DS refused to eat. Then went to similac sensitive. That plus gas drops before every feeding and playtex ventaire bottles was a good combination. He could be going through a growth spurt, just feed hi as much as he wants. THe sensitive formula is already broken down a bit so he could be hungrier on it. His digestive system is still developing - at some point you'll find the right combination. I also found putting DS on his belly helped

I find that similac sensitive is thinner than other formulas...so maybe that is why he is taking more? It never wound up working for us after 4 weeks of trying. We didn't try the gentelese...we wound up having to go to enfami AR. I hear that switching from sensitive to gentelese is hard bc sensitive has sugar in it!!

This - we used Gentlease and then Sensitive for DS 1 (long story but, all he would drink was sensitive - probably should have been on Alimentum but, wouldn't drink it) and it didn't help his gas issues AT ALL (lots of restless nights for DH and I). Gentlease was much better for gas in our experience. The difference is that Sensitive is lactose free while Gentlease has lactose but, is broken down further than regular formulas making it easier for babies to digest.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'm going to see how it goes- Ped wants us to try the sensitive through the weekend. (switched her 2 days ago). We go for a weight check on Monday, so I will follow up then.

Re: Similiac Sensitive

We used Enfamil gentlease and gas drops. My ped said that the gentle formula for any brand with 0.3 of gas drops so we put them in every bottle.
