Silly question about IUI

So once I start Day 1, my doctor said he will monitor me to determine when to start taking the meds and then he will trigger the ovulation.

What is the "trigger"? How does this work if I don't ovulate on my own?

Does the IUI hurt? He said I might have some light cramping afterwards, but he said that with the HSG test and that was awful for me.

Re: Silly question about IUI

the trigger is a one time shot..i do it myself but some go to the doc and have it done

it will make you ovulate..i do not on my own either

the iui is 2 min long..for me it is similar to a pap or my hsg but those did not hurt for me

did u have a blockage?is that why it hurt?

after your dh drops off his sample and they do a process called"washing" it is put into what looks like a long turkey basterChat Icon

your clamped open it in inserted and it is done..literally takes a minute

then i lay for 10 min and all done

good luckChat Icon

No blockages, they are slightly unsure of one side but he feels pretty confident that there was a kink in the tube or something. I felt soooo bad but as soon as it was over it was fine.

My DH keeps joking about the turkey baster.....

Thanks for explaining, I was confused about the trigger.

Re: Silly question about IUI

The HSG hurt me like a !@#$%^&. I had a blockage cleared during the HSG.

I had 2 IUIs, back to back. The 1st I just felt a little pinch. The 2nd was a little more uncomfortable.

I actually cramped for a couple of days afterwards. My IUIs were on a Friday and Saturday, I was glad I had the weekend to relax.

I didn't have to trigger because I O'ed on my own. I monitored at home with a CBE OPK and went in for a follie check. I normally O early and have short cycles, so I only had one follie check before I Oed.
