Silly carseat question
Where is it supposed to go? I know it belongs in the backseat, but does it matter where it is placed? Should it be center, behind the driver or behind the passenger seat? I planned on installing it this weekend and suddenly realized I don't know this piece of information. Does it matter what type of car you have (i.e., sedan, 2-door, SUV)?

Re: Silly carseat question
check your car manual -- it should likely tell you the best spot for your car to put the car seat.
we placed ours on the passenger side so it would be a little easier to see if only one person is in the car with the baby.

agreed. In my old car, we had DD in the middle, which I actually preferred because it's easier to attend to them when they are in the middle when you are by yourself and driving, esp when they are rear facing.
I now have her on the side behind the passenger seat-- since I can turn around and see her. Not sure what I'll do when we have another car seat back there!

the safest place for the carseat is always in the center of the backseat I was a car seat technician and this is what I learned

This applies to an infant seat too correct?

Yup this def applies for the infant seat. If you look up the local hospitals, a lot of them have car seating fitting stations where a car seat technician will install the seat for you..

This is not the case in all cars, so definitely check your car's manual. My husband drives a Toyota solara and the center seat has a narrow hump, so the carseat would have wobbled if installed in that spot so we have it behind the driver's seat.

Re: Silly carseat question
I just had my first Lamaze/childbirth class last night and we talked about this with the RN.
She says that according to the AAP (American Association of Pediatrics), the safest place for a carseat is the middle of the backseat, unless you have something there - an armrest, etc. - that prevents you from installing it correctly. According to the driving group AAA, the safest place is in the back behind the passenger's seat.
So if you can install it in the middle, you probably should. If you can't, put it behind the passenger's side and that's 100% fine.

Re: Silly carseat question
My hubby just installed our car seat today and we have a honda pilot and put it in the middle.
I think it's safer and just incase we have people in our car, it's easier for them to sit one on each side.

Re: Silly carseat question
I read up online and in my car manual and it seems my car has the latch system equipped for all the back seats. Only problem is that if I put it in the middle where does the mirror go since there isn't a head rest??
