Siblings and sharing a room
Not sure if I should post this here or on parenting but....
I have posted before that FH and I are gutting our house and plan on making the upstairs a 1 bedroom apt for a while... we are thinking until we will no longer need day care. (we have no children at the moment but will be getting married in Feb and then I want to start making some babies!) On the first floor we will have 2 decent sized bedroooms- one for FH and I and one for kids. We plan on having at least 2 kids and while we never discussed this before last night I just figured the 2 kids would share the 1 bedroom until we no longer had a tenant. FH says to me last night but what if we have a boy and girl, they can't share a room that wouldn't be appropriate. I plan on having on having my kids within 2 years of each other so I'm thinking they would have to share a room until the youngest is in Kindergarten. Would that be inappropraite for a boy and girl sibling to share a room until that time?? With the layout of the house we couldn't put another bedroom on the 1st floor.
What are your thoughts? Thanks

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
I don't think it's inappropriate for kids that young to share a room.. but i'm not a parent so i guess my view isn't the same
i wouldn't worry too much about it yet considering you have quite a ways to go and you don't know how long it may take you to get pregnant, or what gender kids you may have.
but that's just me

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
My friends kids are boy and girl and share a room. She said there are some cons with them waking each other up, but she doesn't have any other option.
I have a boy and girl and what I can say is at 3 my DD demands privacy at times especially from her brother. I guess if there was no choice she'd have to deal, but she does enjoy having her own space at times. Also, my DC are very different sleepers - they would never work well in a bedroom together. Regardless of gender

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
I live in a 2 bedroom apt and my boys are 22 months apart
They are 3 and 1 now and they LOVE sharing a room. In the morning they talk to each other. Its so cute. I was so nervous that one would wake the other and vice versa but for space reasons I really didnt have a choice. We would have done the same if it was a boy and a girl.
The first 6 months DS#2 slept in our room since he was still waking at night but then we moved him into his brothers room
No worries...i would do it

I would probably be careful about buying a house that you wouldn't be able to afford if you had to without the tenant. In 6 years from now who knows what your situation will be as far kids, ages and genders. I think a 4yo and 6yo could share a room. You also will want to consider all the stuff/toys that kids have. My dd's bedroom is FULL of toys, some big toys too like play kitchen, because we don't have a playroom.

ITA. You will have to account for the fact that your rental does not bring money every month especially when tenants move in and out. You will have unoccupied time. Clean and paint between tenants, etc...
As far as sharing. You can make shift for a few years but you might have to keep one of them in your bedroom for a while. They will keep waking up each other. Especially at a young age. Plans are great in deciding how long between kids but in reality it does not always work that way either.
My BIL/SIL have kids 5 years apart. They were going to have them share a room at first but my niece will be turning 9 yo and my nephew just turned 3. They are converting their florida room into a room. They cannot share a room at this point.

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
My brother & I shared a room until I was 9 & he was 6 because we had 2 bedrooms downstairs & my mom didn't want me upstairs alone. We were fine.

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
My brother and I shared a room until he left for college and then I got my own apartment (we're 4 years apart and I am older) and I can tell you it was horrific. We had a wood partition up, my brother had the entry part of the room so he had NO privacy whatsoever, and we tortured each other, physically fought and hated each other. It took us into our adult years to become friends and I attribute that to our living conditions.
I would never ever recommend this situation, however, we did what we had to do because it was all my folks could afford.

Re: Siblings and sharing a room
I always shared a room...sometimes with my sister, sometimes with my brother (I just realized I never got a room to myself. Maybe I should have spoken up ) and both situations were fine.
