Show me your light and airy kitchens!
We are painting the whole house. The kitchen/dining area is long and narrow - not very big. I find the whole kitchen to be too dark for such a narrow space. There is a bay window in the dining area which opens things up a bit as well as a nice built in china cabinet in the wall that saves some space. That part of the kitchen is a dark sage green. the other end of the kitchen has a grey marbley looking corian countertop - not something I would ever pick but it is functional and nothing is wrong with it so we are keeping it. The cabinets are white. The wall color is a dark burgundy - again, too dark for the spot. Until we can afford to put up a backsplash, it will be painted.
Basically, I'd like to lighten up the entire kitchen. So far, Im thinking a light wedgewoody blue color would be great. I despise yellow but maybe a creamy something. I am not sold on two colors in the dining area simply because we have chair rails there.
I'd love to see your light and airy kitchens. Here are pics of what it looks like there now. Any suggestions of color would be great:

i wouldn't consider my kitchen light and airy so i don't have a picture for you  but your kitchen is really cute - it reminds me younghouselove's kitchen - so maybe you can get a few ideas from their blog...
if you take down or open those blinds and paint it will make a huge difference!

I have a long, narrow kitchen, too. Not sure if this qualifies as "light and airy" in your book -- but this is how we redid our kitchen. It may be too dark for your tastes.
When we bought the place, it was white -- actually white BRICK - quarter inch brick cemented to the wall  This picture is sort of dark, but this brightened it up a LOT compared to its previous state...

Thanks! I should have opened the blinds when I took the pics. It doesnt make much of a difference really. It DOES get a lot of light. I just think it will look bigger with lighter colors.

I should add that we also started with the granite and tile and got our paint color from there. That's how we wound up in the pink/orange family.
Since you have beautiful white cabinets and neutral countertops, you have so many color options. I love wedgewood blue personally and think it would make your cabinets pop more than a creamy color in the yellow family.

It's very cute. I would get rid of the red paint and the blind- those blinds are an odd size- like almost too small for that window.
I think if you got rid of the blinds, and hung a valance maybe a little above the window (but still over the space where the window ends and the wall begins- does that make sense?) it would let in more light and give the illusion of a bigger window.

I totally agree with Young House Love's kitchen. And they have a great color in the kitchen too.

I love that color. Light and airy for sure.
Also check out CaMacho's kitchen. She has white cabinets as well.

The rooms on either side of those rooms will be neutrals/taupes/beiges. I NEED to have color in that room. I swore to myself that when I owned a home I would not completely neutralize my house - that's why I am going in the other direction.

I would take a color from one of the rooms that are next to it but a lighter version on the swatch card. I also like the idea of a blue.

I was just going to suggest Palladium Blue. Our office/guest room is that color. Very light and airy.
Or something in the greyish blue family would really look nice in the kitchen

This is the kitchen in the house I'll be moving into...it doesn't have any appliances or decor yet, but at least you can see the color scheme.

I posted these the other day, my kitchen is painted a light brown, and one wall in the eat in dining room is painted a sort of latte brown. However, I am scared of color. I think its light and airy.
