Should i try for a vaginal delivery?? Please....WWYD?

Sorry to post on here but im trying to make a decision as to what to do.

My OB recommended doing a c-section because of a 4th degree hemorrhoid, which has gotten a little better in the last couple weeks. I was told pushing from a vaginal delivery could cause the hemorrhoid to come back, maybe even worse than before and it couldn't be a hardder recovery than the last couple weeks and I will have a newborn.
Well, i have also heard that a c-section is a hard recovery and i will have to stay in the hospital an extra 2 days.

What do you guys think? Should i try for a vaginal delivery anyway with the risk of a complication or stay with the c-section??

Thankfullly, I had no experience with hemorroids, but I did end up with a c-section. Honestly, my recovery was a breeze, so much easier than I expected. however, I did have some very scary complications at the end of the c-section. I do wish I could have ended up with a vaginal delivery for that reason alone. I think if I were you, I would listen to the doctor's recommendation.

I have had two c-sections. First was an emergency, second was planned. I found both recoveries to be pretty easy. The planned one was even easier since I didn't go into labor, plus I was doing so much more earlier because my DH had to be home with our DS. I actually liked the extra days in the hospital. It was nice to have someone take care of me and the babyChat Icon Now most people I have heard from they all recovered nicely from their c-sections. If you do have problems with the hemorrhoid it can lead to lots of problems and a lot of pain, which can also lead to surgery.Chat Icon I would get a second and even third opinion if you really want to try the vaginal delivery.

I don't have experience with a 4th degree hemorrhoid, but I do have experience with c-sections. I had one with my DS and DD. The recovery from a c-section is not easy. My first c-section recovery was much better than my first. I had major complications with my 2nd c-section. My DD was fine, but I went through a great ordeal for over 3 months. Anytime you get a surgery there is always a risk.

Is there nothing they can do for the hemorrhoid now? Maybe go talk to a surgeon? if you land up pushing for an extended period of time they you will land up hurting afterward.. If your doctor reccommends a csection i would go with that opinion. GL

ITA I also had a c section with my dd and a vaginal delivery with ds. If having a vaginal delivery does not pose a threat to you or your baby DEFINITELY try that.

No experience with hemorrhoids either, but I can tell you that I had a difficult recovery from a C-section compared to vaginal, after almost 5 months pp I am still not 100% healed and don't know if I will ever get feeling back to the area right about the incision. I also think that if I have any more babies they would most likely have to be delivered via c-section because of the risks of delivering vaginally after a c section. Not as important, but it also seems to take your body alot longer to get back in shape, etc.

Good luck!

I had experience with really horrible hemorrhoids and a vaginal delivery. I don't know if it was "fourth degree hemorrhoid", but my OB did jokingly say to me it was "A+". I had terrible problems with the hemorroids during pregnancy, and the 3 hours of pushing made it that much worse. It was a much rougher recovery than I think other women had after a vaginal delivery. I needed ice packs for 2 weeks, as opposed to a few days, and the hemorrhoid creams didn't do jack. Moving around and lifting were hard, but I think still easier than from a C/s. I know some women on LIF have had easy recoveries, but some of my friends were really rough.

That said, I would still recommend doing a vaginal delivery if possible. If I have another child, I would still opt to try a vaginal delivery if my Ob thought it was safe for me and the baby.

I would be getting another medical opinion. In fact, I did have several OB's opinions about my need for a planned C-section. By the time I had the C-section I was very sure that it was the right decision and the only viable decision. Good luck. C-section recovery is serious but it is not so bad.

No experience with hemmorhoids or a c-section. I had 2 vaginal deliveries. I do believe that most v-births are easy recoveries than c-births. I had very easy labors, very easy recoveries, but I still had to deal with stitches. I can't imagine dealing with a tear & a hemmorhoid. Even if you opted for a v-birth, there is no guarantee you won't wind up with a c-section. I would go for the sure thing, avoid the pushing altogether. I think you should follow your doctor's recommendation.

Also I've been following your posts on pregnancy. For all of your suffering, you deserve the easiest labor & recovery.Chat Icon

Good luck!

ITA - if you do not have faith in your doctor, you need a new doctor.

Re: Should i try for a vaginal delivery?? Please....WWYD?

This is WHY I had a scheduled c-section with DS. It was horrible during my pregnancy. I had an outpatient procedure at 24 weeks. Every day I would pray I would be spared from another attack. Only a few weeks later at 29 weeks it came back. They refused to do another procedure. Luckily I got it on time and it was not as bad. From that point on my OB and her partner agreed that with a vaginal delivery I would put me out of commission for WEEKS and that I probably would heal just as fast if not sooner from a c-section.

Unfortunatelly, 2 days before my c-section, I had a major attach (the worst I had ever had) and I was in agony. I barely slept for the 2 days prior to the c-section. To the point that I begged my OB the night before my c-section to have a surgeon do a surgery on me right after the c-section. We did not have time to find a surgeon but he came to see me in the recovery room and they all knew how "lucky" I was that I had a c-section.

I CANNOT IMAGINE what would have been of me if I had had to have a vaginal delivery. I was such in bad shape (I could barely walk) before the delivery I just can't imagine.

I had discuss with my OB if it was possible to change my mind about delivery. Like scheduling a c-section and change my mind to have a vaginal, she said it was OK. I just would not be induced until past my due date though.

When we discussed baby#2, my OB's first words were "you ARE having a c-section, right? It was pretty bad last time!".

Re: Should i try for a vaginal delivery?? Please....WWYD?

If your dr. is offering the c-section, I would take it.

I had wretched hemorrhoids during my pregnancy and they got excruciating by the end. My dr. kept insisting that I have a v-birth even though I have a tilted cervix, wasn't dilating and had these hemorrhoids.

Well, I went into labor naturally, dilated naturally and started to push, but DD wasn't budging. I pushed for a couple of hours with no epidural before the dr (not mine, the stand in, as I had DD on X-Mas day) pulled my DH over and said that in his opinion, continuing to push would "destroy me." he said my hemorrhoids were so bad and my pelvis so narrow etc. that a c-section was best.

I STILL have issues with hemorrhoids 6 months later because of all of that pushing.

The recovery from the c-section was terrible. Very painful and even depressing for me, but I can only imagine recovering from a v-birth AND a ruptured hemorrhoid. I would go for the c-section. If your dr. is already sensing the problems the hemorrhoids could cause, he is probably trying to SPARE you more pain/surgery.

Hope you have an easy labor!

Re: Should i try for a vaginal delivery?? Please....WWYD?

I posted on your original thread on pregnancy but to be sure you've seen it I had all three hemmorhoid pads thrombosed b/c of the pressure from the size and position of DS. I literally could not sit and could barely walk because of the pain and had a hemorrhoidectomy (in-office Chat Icon) five days before I delivered DS by elective cesarean. There is nothing saying if you try for the v-birth you'll succeed so you may reignite the pad and wind up with an emergency c and have that recovery as well.

Truthfully I could in no way have taken care of a newborn with the three thrombosed and the pain that I was in so IMO there's not much to think about.

The only other route I would suggest considering if you're really anti-c is to have the hemorrhoidectomy now since you're still pretty early (I was 37w 4d when I had mine). That may give you enough time between now and the delivery to recover fully.

One more thing (though the dr's seemed a little surprised so I don't know if this is normal) is that by the time the epidural wore off, the hemorrhoids were completely gone and I was pain free (in that area Chat Icon). It was 100% due to the pressure of DS so his 'removal' was key to my recovery.

FM if you have any questions - I know at the time I would have liked to have spoken to someone who had gone through it.
