should i see an re?

I have been trying to get pregnant for 13 months.....I have started clomid and am currently on 100 mg because i DO NOT ovulate. With the clomid i have started to ovulate but only on cd19. Still no BFP. I guess my question is when should i think about seeing an RE? I am still seeing my GYN and he is REALLY good, but i dont feel that he is very aggressive. SHould i already be seeing an RE?

I would definitely get to an RE. You've been trying for a significant amount of time and have valid concerns. An RE is much more experienced in the field of infertility and will guide you MUCH better to getting your BFP!! Good Luck!! Chat Icon

Welcome Chat Icon I agree w/ babyquestion- I would definitely see an RE for a 2nd opinion. How long have you been on clomid? Are you being monitored while on it? How old are you?
The general rule of thumb is (I 'think' so don't quote me on it Chat Icon ) something like if you're under 35 try for 12 months and over 35 try for 6 months before moving to an RE. I am under 35 and have been seeing an RE since before I got married b/c we knew what we were dealing w/ already.
I'm sure some of the women on here can help you find an RE in your area- I go to Dr. Kenigsberg at LI-IVF. They have offices in Lake Success, Melville, and Port Jefferson. HTH! Good luck to you!!! Keep us posted! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, I think it is time for you to see an RE. Unfortunately most OB/GYN's don't really understand fertility - its not their speciality - however they try to treat fertility problems even though they don't have the knowledge/time/facilities to do so.
IMO - an RE's job is to get you pregnant, and an OB's job is to take care of you once you are pregnant.

Has your DH had a semen analysis?

Good luck!

Re: should i see an re?

Be very careful about using Clomid from an OB unless you are getting very close monitoring. My RE told me that he has seen women that have lost an ovary from improper monitoring on Clomid by an OB.

I think it is time to see an RE. If you are not ovulating on your own, this IMO, is out of the OB's area of expertise. He should be referring you to someone who is an expert in IF.

I agree 100% with the other girls. You need an RE. It seems that the most commonly used ones on the boards are RS of NY and LI-IVF. The both have a few offices.

Good luck! Welcome. Hope your stay here is short. Chat Icon

Yes, I think it is time to see a RE. Be careful with Clomid. If not monitored correctly, it could actually do the reverse and create difficulties getting pregnant. Your uterine lining could get very thin.

Good Luck!

Absolutely...my reg GYN told me don't worry, you have no issues, you should get pg in no time Chat Icon Fast forward a few years, I went to see an RE, turns out I have PCOS and very rarely ovulate and my DH has severe sperm issues! Better to get it checked out by an expert Chat Icon Sometimes all we need is a helping hand!

I agree 100%. I don't ovulate on my own, either--and an RE is specially trained to know how to deal with that. I affectionately refer to Clomid as "the big guns". It's a serious drug with some hefty side effects--and there is a 12-cycle lifetime maximum while you are on it, because it thins the uterine lining over time.

Are you being monitored via sonogram while on the Clomid? At the bare minimum, you should be having a sonogram around CD11 to see when you will ovulate. Also, since you don't ovulate on your own, the problem could also be that you are maturing eggs, but they are not releasing. You may need a trigger shot to do this, and an RE is the person to do that.

BEST OF LUCK to you--I got pregnant on my first cycle of Clomid paired with a trigger shot. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: should i see an re?

I am being monitored while on clomid...but when i asked my dr about the trigger shot he said i didnt need that...i am ovulating but very late, and the first time my opk didnt even turn, but blood work showed that i did ovulate....At my last sono on d13,, my eggs are the perfect size...he told me to go home and have sex, but didnt mention i was ovulating, and then no ovulation for a week!..I have looked into LI-IVF and am going to make an appointment with them....im due to get AF and after my last bloodtest, my gyn didnt even meet with me, so i dont even know if he wants me back on clomid or what....it was very strange...thanks alot girls! You are all very helpful!
