Should I ignore or correct?
DD is 17 months old and recently started this annoying screaming thing when she gets mad, it's totally to get my attention b/c when she does it she looks right at me after Im done. I'm wondering if I should just ignore so that she isn't getting a reaction or if I should tell her no. I feel like sometimes when I tell her no, it only makes her do it more. I'm hoping she will grow out of it soon.

DS is the same age and so far I ignore it. Whenever you try to shush him, he just yells louder.

Re: Should I ignore or correct?
I'd ignore it and try to redirect her as if nothing happened. DD is 28 months and entering a little bratty phase. As long as she's not hurting herself or anyone else, I ignore the attitude and try to refocus onto something else, or repeat my instructions that she needs to follow.

I honestly never ignore anything - it's just not in my programming to ignore it.
I always let them know, at any age, it wasn't acceptable, and redirected.......but never ignored.
but that's a parenting style thing - if you'd normally ignore something similar, then I say stick w/ what works for you

Re: Should I ignore or correct?
Just ignoring a 17m old off the bat might be confusing. IMO, everyone should get one response. I would say "no" or ask him to stop the first time so she knows where you stand and if the behavior gets worse or persists, ignore that behavior, redirect, and immediately reinforce the first appropriate behavior. After DD is calm be sure to tell her that behavior does not get her what she wants, how you would like her to respond and what you will give her if she follows directions ie: an extra book before bed, some extra time with a preferred item, etc. I know it seems weird to provide her with something for doing what she should do anyway, but this can be thinned with time and provides an extra incentive. This way you ignore, and correct. You can't ignore only. You have to correct by saying exactly what is expected or else your DD has to figure out what else to do on their own snd chances are that behavior wont be appropriate either. Most important is to be consistent. If you say no, stick with it. Giving in will make this behavior harder to extinguish.

If she wants your attention and you give her anything, it will only increase the behavior. I would ignore it and redirect her, and give her what she wants as soon as she is quiet.

I agree. I can never ignore something like that. I never know if I'm doing the right thing by addressing it instead of ignoring but it seems to work with DD. The screaming is so annoying
