Short luteal phase?

It was only my first month temping (4 months ttc) but I got AF 9dpo and my temp dropped. I've read this is too short for a LP and could cause problems getting pregnant. Is there anything I can do? Should I make an appointment with my regular gyn. or do I need to see some type of specialist?

I feel kind of overwhelmed especially finding this out for Christmas. Chat Icon

Re: Short luteal phase?

I will tell you something I wish someone told me. temping is not an exact science. After temping for months,, my LP was on the shorter side 9-10 days in some cases. I eventually moved on to an RE for IUI's/timed cycles, they gave me sonograms where I still saw the follicle and then the next day it was gone so I knew exactly what day I O'd. I coordinated it with temping to see how accurate it was and what I learned was that my temps didn't rise until 2 days AFTER I actually O'd. So my LP was never short. But I did all kinds of crazy things to try and lengthen it. Bottom line, is temping is not always 100% accurate. Some girls swear by it and maybe it works for them but for me it didn't and I regret wasting a lot of time and energy on worrying about it.

HTH!

Re: Short luteal phase?

I have this problem too, my luteal phases have been between 7-10 days. I would love to know what other girls did in this situation.

I have a feeling mine is caused from birth control pills bc I was on them for 10 years. I have read that this usually corrects itself in a few months

I was on BC for over 4 years, so maybe it was that. This will be our 5th month trying, so I'm hoping if it is because of BC it will regulate soon. Good luck to you! Chat Icon

Do you even recommend temping? I don't mind sticking the thermometer in my mouth when I wake up, it just trying to interprit the chart throughout the cycle that stresses me out.

for me personally I dont recommend it because like you I was constantly stressed out, waking up to temp, putting in the calendar, obsessing every day about a temp shift, "Was that O, what that implantation, is my LP too short, am I pg?"

But I also have a friend who loved it. It worked really well for her and she got pg on one of the first months of temping. In all, there really is no right or wrong. Just what works for you. HTH!

no probs. I tried raspberry leaf tea to lengthen it, but I got pg the first month I tried it so i don't know if it helped.

i am a huge temping advocate. i temped orally at first and found a lot of fluctuation (i temped before I was ttc just to see what was going on with my cycles and if I was O'ing). I switched to vaginal temping and found that to be much more accurate and much less guessing/interpreting involved. I never feel O pains, and I also never got a true + OPK.

Also, I was on BCP for 15 years... never thought that affected LP length but maybe.

any specific questions you can always fm me!

I have been finding it to kind of stressful too, but I did at least find it to be somewhat reassuring when my temps went up so at least I know I O'd. But it was annoying having to make sure to wake up and not forget and get out of bed before taking my temp. Plus, maybe I'm crazy, but some nights I would dream I took my temp, maybe because I was thinking about it before going to sleep, then I'd wake up and think I already took it! Chat Icon

DITTO!!!! Tempting caused me a 6-month nightmare. It was all-consuming. And, I would spend days praying for my temp to go up to signal pregnancy. It's not worth it, unless you have an ovulatory disorder.
