Short getaway in Jan help
Our 7 year anniversary is in th beginning of Jan and we went to getaway. We only want to be away for 3 days. Either a quick drive or short plane ride no more than 3 hours driving or flying. We aren't bed & breakfast types, no casinos. We want to stay under $2,500. Where is somewhere that has a good food, night life but is relaxing.

Chicago! It will be cold- but it will be cold everywhere you can drive to in January.
Or better yet, New Orleans!

You will LOVE it. So much good food and night life! I have to find out the name (I forgot) of the speakeasy type place we went to. It was an actual place that Al Capone used to go to during prohibition- there are tunnels underneath they used to use to escape the cops during raids. They kept it pretty much the same and they have all period music and bands. It was so cool. Great jazz and blues clubs. Amazing architecture. You must do the architectural boat tour- amazing.
If you are looking for a great hotel- The Langham.
I went for work and I didn't want to go either- we usually go to Miami for this conference- I was so pissed they changed it this year. But I was so wrong. I ended up wishing I had more time!
It's a smaller, cleaner, NYC
ETA- the club was The Green Mill- totally off the beaten path, and looks like a dive, but really really cool.

Short getaway in Jan help
I love Chicago too, but would not recommend in January. (Although DH and I went in Dec a few years ago and the weather was pretty mild). One of my favorite things to do, the Architectural Boat Tour, doesn't run in the winter. But there are lots of other great things to do - great restaurants and lots of fun blues clubs. Plus there is the Hancock Tower with a really nice lounge to get drinks overlooking the city and the Willis Tower - touristy but still nice to see

You stayed at the Langham in Chicago for a work trip? Lucky you...that place is pricey! The one in NYC is beautiful!

We have also stayed at the Ritz in Key Biscayne one year. They do book almost the whole place and get some pretty sick corporate rates. I kinda love my job...sometimes!

Charleston SC - Beautiful walking city, lots of history, great architecture, restaurants, bars, live music. We went in August (stupidly) and it was MISERABLY hot, but I still loved the city and can't wait to get back.
I also LOVE Chicago, but not in January !!
