shades for the car.... do you have one you like?
the amazon reviews are just dreadful.... everything either has universally bad reviews, or mixed reviews....
major complaints are mainly that the blinds either fall off (bad suction cups) or they damage the window seal (for the ones that hook over the window)
DS is starting to squint... we need shades... help!

We have Eddie Bauer ones and I don't think they've ever blocked the shade from him...lol. The suction doesn't stick that well either.

IMO, they aren't really safe, they can come off and hit DC in the head.
You can buy baby sunglasses if the sun is bothering DC.

there must be something that's safe.... I know the pull-down shades aren't, but someone must make a non-pull down version that's safe...
DS hates hats... I won't even attempt to put glasses on him... I KNOW that won't go over well
there's a part of me that just wants to wedge a cloth in the window

What about something like this? It's a static cling style of window tint. Just cut it to fit, then stick it on the window. There's no adhesive, so it comes on and off easily.

I have the same ones and he still gets sun in his face all the time I do think it shades it a little bit though. Mine have been sticking pretty well once I wet them first.

I bought one of the static cling type of ones from BRU for DD a few years ago. It had a pic of a seahorse or something on her side and it helped block the sun -- not completely, but did shade it. It was flush with the window, so I could put the window up and down if I needed to. It just fell of this winter, after 2 years. I'm going to look for another for this year.

Re: shades for the car.... do you have one you like?
We have FP shades. They hook over the window on top and suction on the bottom.
We have only had them on week now. But suction is still working. And I haven't noticed "damage" to the window seal. But we have a lease and will be giving it back in 2011 so I guess I don't really care if it does affect the seal.
Anyway, sun still gets in because we have an SUV. And sun comes in from the back triangle window thing...if that makes any sense at all. But I guess it does block some of it.

We have the Eddie Bauer ones of these. They never come off the window and work great.

I have the roll up ones, no problems. I think they are Kids 1st?? They have suction cups & got them at BRU. Never came off. I can use the windows when they are rolled up. Will the window go down if you have the film on them?

I don't mean to barge in on this post, but what did you all do when your DCs were rear-facing. I do put sunglasses on my DS, but I don't like his face being exposed to all that sunlight either.

I've used the roller shade since day one.

Okay, so you use that for all windows then? How many do you need?

Re: shades for the car.... do you have one you like?
well, I'm fairly certain that all car windows have UV coatings... so they can't get a burn....
but they DO also make shades for the rear window, if that's what you mean.... problem is that the roller shades could become a projectile in a car accident (just like the baby mirrors). I believe they also make clings, but you probably have to take them off before winter (when the window defrost kicks in....)
Thanks everyone... I searched the internet and pretty much found the only store (in texas) still selling the Eddie Bauer cling sunshade.... it only cost $12 for 2 pairs of shades hopefully coming soon
