Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
I have no idea what Im doing, and my poor son is suffering the consequences. We are on day two of no diapers (at his request, he is refusing them at this point and wants to only wear underwear and go on potty). In TWO days, we;ve only successfully used the potty ONCE! I keep putting him on it but apparently I keep missing the window of opportunity and he has wet himself more times that I can even count at this point.
He either wont tell me when he has to go, or he doesnt truly yet understand when he is about to go so he cant tell me.
I dont know what to do here. The poor kid wants to use the potty and I dont know what the F*CK Im doing and Im REALLY frustrated at this point, I feel like Im seriously failing and s*cking at this and not teaching him properly when he really wants to use the potty.

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
I hear ya! Im potty training DD and she has been going peep in the potty for a few weeks usually throughout the day. i buy pull ups 2 days ago and DD did great, even did a #2 in the potty and wanted to wear the pull ups. Now today second day....DD wants NOTHING to do with the pull ups, potty, or the sticker chart I will try again tomorrow but she requested diappy all day..oh well...i will try again tmrw. DD just turned 2 so I will continue but if she doesnt want to I dont wanna force her. I bought a great potty book and rewards chart and have been giving her stickers but none today..GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Right there with you.
DD had 3 accidents today, which is fine. but I really want her to get the concept of "I have to go, let me go on the potty." I told her no more diapers and we will just use pull ups and underwear.
It's frustrating because as smart as they are, they just can't communicate the feeling to us. KWIM?
He'll get it, hang in there.

exactly! I dont know what to do. I feel like he sits for like 45 minutes!!!!! and then 10 minutes after he gets up hes having an accident. Then he feels badly, but its not his fault.

Mel, keep at it. Part of the readiness though is him recognizing the feeling before it is happening. As discouraging that this may be, I think the accidents will help him to identify & tune into the feeling in the week to come. Frustrating---sure is but don't lose heart. In a week, you'll probably look back on this post and laugh.

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
I'm having trouble too. Today we did not leave our house b/c I wanted to try enforcing potty training (DD is taking off her diaper on her own and we've had some very messy incidents)
I got the potty watch for her and started putting her on the potty every 30 minutes - well by 10 am she was done sitting on the potty. didn't want to do it at all anymore and she just wanted to play with the potty watch as a toy. The kicker was that she has successfully sat on the potty for poops in the past and I knew one was coming and asked her if she wanted to sit on the potty and she said no, and then 10 minutes later told me she had a poopy diaper. AAHHH! what am I doing wrong?! I'm not going to force it though, when she is ready, she'll do it. I just gotta duct tape her diapers on.
Good luck!

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
google potty training in 3 days. it works, worked for all of my friends. you have to ditch the diapers AND the underwear. let them go bottomless and put the potty in the rooms you are mainly in. give them a lot of water to drink to dilute the pee in case there are accidents. if it doesn't work in a few days your child isn't ready. potty training shouldn't take months or even weeks.

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
Hang in there, it is not easy!!!!! My son had a ton (like 10-20) of accidents the first few days---not only was he figuring out to get to the potty, but how to recognize before he needed to go and also to hold it. Your son seems really interested so my advice is try to stay as calm as possible and stay consistent! You can do it!! If it were me, I would put him on every 30 minutes to try, but if he doesn't go just get him up and keep going with playtime etc and if he starts having an accident, rush him to the potty--eventually he will start to finish on the potty, but it may take some time, then eventually he will tell you when he needs to go (at least that is ho0w it went for us!! I know all kids are different!

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
Accidents are fine, and to be expected - some days more than others. Try not to let him see how frustrated you are, and don't make a big deal out of the accidents. I would also suggest that you use some kind of reward system for when he does use the potty - for Alex, what worked like a charm was a sticker chart (one whole line of stickers = new toy) and a skittle for every time she went peepee, two for poopoo.
He won't be doing this forever - it's just a phase - for some it lasts longer than others, but it doesn't mean anything. Just keep at it and eventually he'll get it...

Re: Seriously...I S-U-C-K at this potty training thing
DS just pee'd on the potty for the first time about 20 mins. ago. He woke up dry, so, I took off his pants and pull up. Gave him breakfast, milk, then a juice box. Half way thru the juice box, we sat him on his little potty with the rest of it (juice box) and all of a sudden the music started playing. We are FAR from "getting there", but, I am sooo happy he FINALLY at least pee'd.
