Separation Anxiety and the almost 2 year old

Is this a bad age for it? Christopher would go back in my uterus if given the chance the past couple of daysChat Icon

He isn't sick, no new teeth (he has the 2 yr molars already even), so nothing like that. He just wants me or DH constantly!!

Is this a phase or his personality?Chat Icon

both, i think.

separation anxiety is pretty common at this age - i believe the peak is at about 18 months, but it can come and go through preschool age. but some kids definitely get more anxious than others, so part of it is also his general temperament. Chat Icon

Cailen goes through phases of this -the weird thing is, it got worse for a while - he was never a "Mommy mommy" type of kid, and all of a sudden Chat Icon

But he eased back into his usual mode. Not sure what that was about - but he does go there once in a while.

If it's only been a couple of days, I would say it could be a million things. If it lasts a month or so...a phase....Chat Icon

Re: Separation Anxiety and the almost 2 year old

G hasnt STOPPED being like this for quite a bit now.
I leave her at daycare, every am, same routine, she cries and wont let go. I have to rip her off and run ( i know that sounds horrible) but I know she will be fine within minutes.

At home, she is stuck to me like glue. "Hold you, HOLD you" (instead of hold me) is what I get from 5pm on. Weekends any parties we may go to,....right by my side.

Its tough.

Hope its a phase for you and me both.

DD is 21 mths.

My DS too, he's 19 months and its "mommy, mommy" and "daddy, daddy", I went to my mom's today and they see him atleast 1x a week or more and he still wouldn't let me leave the roomChat Icon if i went to the bathroom he would cry and bang on the door. I think its a stage right now, b/c i feel like he goes through this every couple of months and then relaxes a bit and then all of a sudden the separation anxiety kicks in

I was just reading about this in Parenting magazine and they say it can fo on through age 4, it hits at all different ages but seemed to cover the entire 15months-age 4ish. It goes a way for a while but then comes back.

OMG I was going to come on and ask the same question today.

Logan is like my siamese twin this week.

I can't do ANYTHING without him and NO ONE else is allowed to help him.

Last night it was bathtime.

I said "Ready for bath?"

And he says "Yes. No dada. Mama bath."

First sentences and he's demanding things. Chat Icon

Re: Separation Anxiety and the almost 2 year old

at 18 months (since 8 months) my son still has awful separation anxiety when I drop him off at daycare. He cries, turns beat red, closes his eyes. It's heartwrenching! And god forbid any other kid in the class dares to come near his mommy he freaks even more. I am not to be shared I guess.

Same here!

He freaks if I even say hi to another kid.

And god forbid if DH tries to give me a kiss or hug!!

Re: Separation Anxiety and the almost 2 year old

Taylor is going to be 2 next month and has been very clingy for the last few weeks.
On top of that, she is constantly saying "I'm scared"....most of the time its nothing, but I think its common at this age
