Separation Anxiety???

Hi All, My DD is 15 Months old now and has been going to her sitters house since she was 12 weeks. She was always super happy to go there and would dive out of my arms to go to her baby sitter. This past 3 weeks however it has been a different story. As soon a we walk in she starts clinging to me and crying. Her sitter says she calms down within a few minutes after I leave but I am concerned. Is this seperation anxiety or should I be worried that something else is going on and she can't tell me so this is her way of letting me know?

Re: Separation Anxiety???

DS is around that age and he does the same thing. he goes to a daycare center, out of no where he now cries when I leave him most days. its a phase and they should get over it eventually.

though I see you concern since its a private sitter but if you see no marks and you trust your sitter I would just assume she is going through a phase

My Kids are 4 and 2 now and they started around that age. my 2 year old is still like that and sometimes my 4 year old DD is like that. Although I see your concern, I agree with blu6385.

Tough one.

I'd be extra cautious because I'm paranoid... We had separation anxiety at a younger age (under 1 year).

Started using baby sitter when the youngest was 1.5 & she always had a great reaction to her (but baby sitter came before kids would wake up, so it wasn't tied to me leaving).

Maybe try to see if she reacts the same to DH dropping her off.

I should add I also have 4 year old DD who went through the same phase and still sometimes gets very clingy to me when I go to leaveChat Icon she has been at the same place since 12 weeks!! I keep saying kindergarten should be interesting I am sure its going to be separating anxiety all over again for her Chat Icon

She may surprise you. I Was so nervous and anxious because my DD's separation anxiety was still so bad before she started preschool. However, she did fantastic. I think it's actually helped her anxiety. She walked in and barely looked back on that first day. She still has separation anxiety issues but since starting school she's been better.

Separation Anxiety???

My DD is almost 3 ...some of the time she runs off and goes right to playing and I get a wave and "Bye Mommy!" & sometimes she clings on to my leg when I go to leave.. then when I go pick her up, she doesn't want to go home becaue I am interrupting her playing! Guess it depnds on my DD mood in the mornings.

How is she at pick up? Is she engaged and wanting to keep playing or does she run to you to leave? I think that would give you more info than drop off. If she is engaged, seems happy I would think it's more separation anxiety. If she runs to leave then I would be concerned. DD had separation anxiety around 18 months, which was late.
