sensitive Q

Is anyone else afraid they will be disappointed by the baby's gender? especially after lurking around on LIF I really do believe that a healthy baby is most important, and of course we would love whatever baby we do have, but I cant help but worry that I will be disappointed... I find myself getting jealous when I see people announce they are having a particular gender.

I think it stems from the fact that I really hope we will have at least one child of that gender eventually, and I'd probably be sad if we never ended up having a child of that gender. I keep trying to convince myself that I don't have a preference at all, especially for baby #1, but I hate that I feel this way. Chat Icon

Re: sensitive Q

I hear ya! I'm hoping that we have a certain gender when we get preggo but I'm told that it all goes away when you finally see the baby. I'm HOPING that's true!

I don't think I would be disappointed. As much as I would LOVE one of each I just want a healthy baby. It is one of my biggest fears.

Believe me when that baby is born, no matter what the gender, you will be utterly and completely in love with them Chat Icon

I know I will definitely love the baby, that's not the issue. I'm just hoping that when we are actually pg we'll be so excited that we won't care about the gender. I hate that I have a preference at all Chat Icon

I wanted a girl, I got a boy. I wouldn't change a thing! It's really weird because I couldn't picture myself being a boy-mommy, now I can't picture being a girl-mommy!

This is how I feel. All I keep saying is "please give me a healthy baby" I do not care what the gender is as long as it's healthy. That is the most important thing to me. Chat Icon

Re: sensitive Q

i kind of felt that way when i was pregnant with DS. Thats why when everyone was saying what they thought the baby was i kept quiet and never said what i thought or what i would prefer which was a boy until we found out he was a he. I didnt think i'd want a girl bc i was more of a tomboy, but i think now that im literally surrounded by boys(DH, DS, 2 nephews, 2 BIL's) i would lovvvveee a baby girl to help keep me sane. I dont think i would be disappointed if i had another boy because we dont plan on stopping at 2 either way, but a girl would be nice

I'll be happy with whatever I have as long as it is healthy. That being said, I would just be disappointed if I didn't have a boy b/c I wouldn't be able to name it after my Dad who passed away when I was 15.

Re: sensitive Q

before we starting trying we were thinking about gender swaying for a girl...but it seemed to involved and we just wanted to enjoy ttc....so we did favor the idea of having a girl but we'd be okay with either which is why we just winged ttc...

now that i am pregnant - i only got my bfp last friday - all i want is a healthy baby and i am praying non stop that my pregnancy progresses and i end up with a healthy baby. i could care less if it's a boy or a girl - i just don't want to lose it Chat Icon my DH feels the same way. this early pregnancy stuff is really scary and worrisome and i just want everything to be ok...

i thought i understood when people got upset about gender but now that i am pregnant and a wreck over it i can't imagine being that disappointed...

I agree with this. I think before I got pregnant I felt this way, but it may change for you. I worry everyday about the health of the baby and I just hope everything turns out ok. I could care less about the gender. Gender is the last thing on my mind. I'd be extremely happy with a girl or a boy.

Re: sensitive Q

Ive tossed this question around in my head a lot. I dont think you are alone. I know many of my own friends and family members have mentioned having a preference. I see pro's and con's to both.
I can honestly say that I don't care either way. Ive even thought after having multiple it would be nice to have one of each but having 2 of the same would allow them to grown up as good freinds (hopefully lol) It would be nice to have a litle girl I could dress up and as she grows up Id love to teach her things I've learned along the way as a woman.. but if I had a boy then Id be able to watch DH teach him sports and be guys together. All in all, I would feel blessed either way.
But don't feel ashamed for feeling that way. You're not alone!

You are definitely not alone! I wanted a girl so bad and I knew that when i went for my anatomy scan if they said it was a boy i was going to be so disappointed! But I also knew once I saw that little face it wasnt going to matter anymore! Luckily for me Im having a Chat Icon and couldnt be more thrilled!

Re: sensitive Q

You are def. not alone! I can understand why you might feel bad asking this question because you may kind of feel like you're ungrateful if you get the sex you didnt want and like you're being selfish or something. This is how I feel at least. I REALLY want a girl, badly! and sometimes I feel bad thinking that because there are so many people who cant even get pregnant and who could care less what they have as long as they have a healthy baby. Again, its not wrong to think this way (at least not to me) as long as once you have the baby you will love him/her regardless. I think once you see that little face you will completely forget about preference!Chat Icon

Re: sensitive Q

i just typed this whole long post and it didn't post!!

anywho, i really only want a boy. it doesn't matter to me if i have a little girl, but DH is the last to carry on our last name, so he wants a boy. otherwise, it doesn't matter to me.

Re: sensitive Q

You know when I was younger I used to think "oh I HAVE to have one of each"

But now that I read on here and see with family and friends the problems people have just getting preggo and having a healthy baby I dont think of it.

Sure would I love a boy and girl? YES! I would be lying if I said otherwise. But at this point I just want to have a healthy baby, kwim?
