What works once is not guaranteed to work every time. DS sleeps some night but was up 4 times the last two nights. You really need to get your DH on board with helping. We alternate wake ups.

Maybe the swaddling and burping after woke him up. Can you swaddle halfway through and skip the burp? They're supposed to be okay without a burp after dreamfeeding.

I was thinking of you last night when DD decided to be wide awake and have a 3 hour party starting at midnight. I don't know how you do it night after night!

I gather he is still in the Rock n Play for sleeping? And you mention that he is wide eyed and bushy-tailed, but don't mention that he is crying? Than why not just put him in the RnP and let him be? I can't tell you how many times I slept next to the RnP or pack and play while they were awake in the middle of the night. I mean, if they are safe, secure and not crying, let them be. Even now, at 6 months, there are nights he wakes and I let him be. He may cry shortly, but he does go back down. With my kids, if they fussed and got attention, they would always do it. It's a learned response. And yes, sometimes babies go through growth spurts and will take at night. Hopefully, if that's the case, it's short lived!

When DD would wake very early like that and still wouldn't go back to sleep after her bottle, I'd put her in the swing, put on a baby Einstein dvd very low, and let her be. She'd fall back to sleep in the swing for a couple more hours. Those DVDs were life savers

UGH I can relate to this frustration. WHY oh WHY do babies mess with our heads!?!?!?! We try something new out of desperation. It works!!! Jump for joy. Tell friends and family we have figured a new way to cure baby. Repeat next night exactly same way in anticipation. Doesn't work. Scratch head, cry, back to major frustration.

I am a math teacher. I am used to cut and dry solutions. I keep trying to explain to DD that I am not good at this inconsistency. She apparently finds this little cycle fun and amusing and loves watching her momma helplessly flail.

I second the no burping thing. We used to dream feed the triplets around 4 months and we would not touch them...just feed them right in their cribs. No burp or anything. I read that they would be fine...and sure enough they were.
Dont give up. I would continue to try this same schedule. He could have just had an off night or for some reason was not so sleepy...but tomorrow may be great!

Good luck and keep trying...soon you will have a full nights sleep!

Re: second night of dream sleep epic fail!! heeelllp!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain! We have been dream feeding my 12 week old for about 3 weeks now. I give her her last bottle around 8:30, and then DH dream feeds her at 12-12:30ish. First, she was waking at 4, but it gradually got better, to the latest time of 5:45. However, on some nights, she wakes up screaming at 3:30. I just try to change her diaper, rock her, reswaddle her, and put her back to bed without feeding her. However, that sounds different than your DS, who is up and ready to play. If he's awake and content, can he just stay in the crib awake for awhile, so you can get some sleep?

Last night, DD ate 5 oz before bed, which is huge for her. Then when DH went to do the dream feed, she only took less than an oz, as opposed to the usual 3-4 oz! Of course, she woke up at 2 screaming for food. DH fed her and she took 2.75, woke up at regular time, and now won't take much of her bottle.

These kids are such puzzles, and there isn't always an easy answer. We just have to keep trying things until we find what works or until they decide they are ready to STTN. Chat Icon

I tried dream feed and while she slept thru it. She still was up 3hours later. The only thing that worked was g-ma/ pa. Babysitting whatever they did worked. 5oz at bedtime but for me she won't take.
