Re: Seaford harbor....
They may have never flooded but may require a flood policy and probably are in a flood zone.
I work in seaford, therefore...know a little about the area.

Re: Seaford harbor....
I know sometimes their canals spill over during storms, so one can assume you will experience some flooding. Many of the house dont have basements and are usually high ranches so damage should be limited

Re: Seaford harbor....
I rented in Seaford by the water and our road was alaways getting flooded when it rained. Luckily we lived further up the block and the water never really made it there

Re: Seaford harbor....
I live in Seaford... most areas in the harbor that are on the canal do flood, and do require flood insurance.

Re: Seaford harbor....
I think anything south of Merrick Rd. requires flood insurance.
I have driven in that area in storms and roads were flooded.

Re: Seaford harbor....
I grew up in the Seaford Harbor and it depends where the house is and how high it is off the ground. Most of the houses in the harbor were raised after the December '96 storm (i think it was that year) when the canals met. I lived there for over 18 years and my parents still live there. Our house NEVER got flooded and I live right on the canal. I really liked growing up in that area and I recommend it. What street is the house on?
I do agree that most of the homes south of merrick road require flood insurance.
If you like a house down there make sure you get a great engineer and ask alot of questions about flooding and if you ask people on teh block they will be able to tell you. Also if you want FM the street and house and I can tell you if I know of it being flooded...Seaford is a small town we know everything about eachother :)

Re: Seaford harbor....
I live in Seaford harbor and I have to maintain flood insurance required by FEMA. It's about $380 a year for this insurance.
I think if you are less than 1,500 feet from the water, you are required to get flood insurance.
In the 3 years I have been living there, we haven't had any floods, except some minor flooding in the streets due to poor drainage.
