Screaming/crying out in sleep

It's probably just one of those things and I doubt there's a definitive answer...but does anyone have a clue why this happens?

Riley's been doing it a lot lately and I feel so bad. Sometimes it lasts long enough to scare the crap out of her and then she wakes up so upset.Chat Icon And even if she sleeps through, she still sounds kind of unhappy in her sleep with all the groaning she's doing.

Did I read somewhere that it's gas, is that possible? Or could it be teething?

I guess we could speculate all we want and never know! Just curious!

Emerson has being doing that for a long time. She started doing it the first time around Riley's age. They say that is when they start having vivid dreams which is sometimes what sets them off and scares them. When it happens it's weird........she's "awake" but still asleep.

The past few days it's been happening a lot, almost like night terrors. It's more intense then when she was younger. She wakes up about 2 hrs. after going to bed screaming and crying and it's hard to console her. Then she passes back out like nothing happened. I was picking her up to try and snap her out of it but I just read it's best to leave them alone when it happens because to disrupt what is happening will further upset them and prolong the incident. I feel awful when it happens, she sounds miserable. It sometimes happens a few times throughout the night. Chat Icon

See, Riley hasn't been passing back out after I console her- she's up for the night!Chat Icon But that's her in a nutshell- once she's up, she's up, just like her mommy!Chat Icon

Both my babies do this. I have no idea what the reason is, but usually they will cry for a few seconds and then fall back asleep.

For AJ it was gas - at least when she was younger.

Now she does it now and again but it doesnt wake her up so we leave her be. It scares the bejezzus out of us! Chat Icon

I never thought of Night Terrors. What could my kid be afraid of? Chat Icon

Oh that stinks! Rarely will Emme wake up and stay awake. If she does it's never for more than 15-20 min and then she falls right back asleep.

DS has been doing this more lately--I think it has to do with teething. Chat Icon

Re: Screaming/crying out in sleep

DS has been doing this for the past week, and I think it is because he is teething.
