Scary day

I woke up today not feeling like myself...I went to bed last night at midnight and was extremely exhausted when I woke up. I felt like I had to throw up and did. I get to work and had to go to an event where I would be standing. I was in the middle of talking to someone and everything went black...I didn’t pass out but was very close. Thank God my good friend was with me and she helped me sit down and got me water and fruit to eat. I was so scared so I called DH and then the doctor. The nurse said he wasn’t in and that the other doctor was on her way out. She reassured me that it is normal and that it could be low blood pressure. She also said that from standing too long in the same spot and not moving around that could happen....has anyone heard of this? Yes, I SHOULD be drinking more water, which I will. I also read something today that laying on your back when sleeping could cause low blood pressure and that you should sleep on your left side, which I will start doing. I was so scared, but now I'm feeling a little better. I can't wait to go home and shower and get to bed early. Thanks for listening! Chat Icon

Chat Icon I've been noticing that I feel woozy lately if I stand too long doing dishes and I'm hungry or thirsty. I think it's due to the same issue, I've had low blood pressure at my last 2 doctor appts, I usually drink massive amounts of water daily, but I've been having trouble drinking it this pregnancy!! If it's not ice cold I just don't want to drink it lol Sorry that happened today, it's extra scary when you feel like that and you're not home and can't lay down! Glad someone was with you!!! Thanks! yes all I wanted to do was lay down at home! I just have to keep drinking water and I want to try sleeping on my left side and see if that helps.

Scary day

I notice that I will get that way if I haven't had sugar in awhile. I keep OJ on hand for when I start to feel that way.

I suffer from low blood pressure to begin with. About a year ago I was on medication for my cluster headaches and a side effect is that it could lower your BP (mines usually a low, norm, I'm usually 93/64). I felt EXACTLY how you did! I woke up feeling really tired and off. As the day went on I felt even worse and then got REALLY thirsty and nauseous. I ended up getting dizzy and lowering myself to the floor. Turns out my BP was 75/50.

My doctor has been monitoring my BP so that it doesn't get that low during the pregnancy. I bought a BP machine to track it at home myself in case I start to feel the symptoms again. My doctor told me to drink even more water then what is suggested. I also carry around crackers and potato chips (salt will help increase your BP). I was told when I leave my apt I should ALWAYS have water with me. Just keep drinking and it should help you out. I've had a couple episodes while pregnant and I sit down drink water and eat something salty. As the pregnancy goes on I have noticed that my BP has been better.

Re: Scary day

This can 100% happen from low blood pressure! One of my bridesmaids passed out during my wedding ceremony from standing too long because of low blood pressure!

Drink water, but actually too much water is BAD for low blood pressure. Maybe have them monitor it and even add some salt to your diet if you don't eat a lot of salt?

So sorry today was so scary, but glad you're feeling better!

Thank you for the suggestions—I will keep salty snacks on hand now! It’s nice to know that this is common.

Ive had low blood pressure, black outs, and fainting spells my entire life. Most times it happens away from home so dont be surprised by that.
Since I have been pregnant i have already blacked out once standing on the LIRR. NO FUN. It is terrifying ...especially if you are alone.
I have never noticed water as a huge help. You should carry juice, hard candy, etc with you. When your BP gets low you need SUGAR. I have been traveling with "preggie pops"...bought them from amazon. They seem to help with my motion sickness and fainting. Feel better!

Re: Scary day

I'm glad you're feeling better. This happens to me if I'm standing for too long and I haven't eaten something beforehand. Actually, it happened in a supermarket not too long ago, it is very scary. Make sure you're eating breakfast and drinking your water/juice. Chat Icon Chat Icon
