Scam Go Fund Me site - Horrible people

I have a quasi neighbor (who has moved from the neighborhood).

Set up a go fund me because his wife has 2 months to live. They are raising money for "memories" in these last 2 months.

IMMEDIATLY another neighbor came on and said that this link was removed from almost every site it was put up (in the Newtown Ct area) because people knew the family and said its not true.

I went to this guys facebook page. If his wife was dying don't you think his page would be FULL of posts? "What can we do" and "prayers" and "how can we help".

Not one post.

Not. One.

Then on the links to his go fund me on HIS page. NOT ONE COOMENT. Not one. he posted it several times.

Not one comment from anyone.

In fact, he has 200+ friends and has almost NO posts or comments at ALL from anyone.

REALLY strange

Then I checked.

It was NOT shared on his wife's page at all, and she has no comments on her page saying "what can we do" from friends.

And then I dug further.

No one with the same last name (about 15 people combined on her friend list and his friend list, maiden and married name) has shared the go fund me.

If my sister/daughter/cousin/brother was going through this I would be ALL over it.

I was sent a PM today saying someone dug a little. He is estranged from his wife. She is probably not dying. But he is a drug addict.....

So its ok to say your wife is dying to get drug money? Explains no shares no likes, no comments. Explains why he has no friends on FB. I pray he gets the help he needs.

I have heard so many scam stories with this Go Fund Me stuff which is terrible for those who really do use it for the right reasons and are "in need".

To me, it seems like this is something that should be illegal or made illegal -- I get that it is a fairly new concept so we may not have laws in place yet for this but, IMO, legislation to curb this should be a priority. This kind of stuff is downright criminal and it should be treated as such.

I don't see why people get all worked up about go fund me. it's your choice to donate, just like you choose to donate the person on the street with a sign.
I personally don't go on go fund me to look for cause to donate, I only donate to causes that I know about. Like a friends or family need funding for something. People create go fund mes for vacations, you are not forced to donate.

I assume Go Fund Me (as a company) has rules about that and if it's proven that it's a lie, they would take it down and refund any money that was donated.
