SAHMs
I am wondering - do you ever plan on going back to work - like when your kids are in school full time...or do you plan to be home forever.
If you are going to go back to work - what kind of job will you be looking for?
Just asking out of curiosity - I personally have mixed feelings about it for me.

Re: SAHMs
I will be home for atleast the next 5 years. I don't know what the future holds for me though. I do work from home for DH and my brother. I will get totally bored home all day waiting for the kids to get out of school. I will see what happens then. If I do go back to work it will most likely be PT... if at all since I will have to play chauffeur to a 5, 7 and 10 year old

Re: SAHMs
When all 3 of my kids are in school I may get a part-time job just so I have something to do and the extra $$ couldn't hurt, but that's ONLY if I can be home to get them off of the bus in the afternoon... both my DH and I think it's very important for me to be home with them. Or I may go back to school to finish up my nursing degree... we'll see, I have at least 5 yrs.

Re: SAHMs
I planned on going back to work (although I typed school without even thinking so maybe that is a sign) when my chidlren are in school full time, but that is a few years away since Luka is only 5.5 months old and I plan on have another 2. Like the other posters if I did go back to work it would be part time and I would want to be home so I could pick them up from school.

Re: SAHMs
No, I plan on having kids spread out over the next few years and when they are eventually all in school I plan on being at home every day when they get home from school, when they are sick, and home with them all summer when they are off from school.
If we needed the money then I would consider working part time but I don't see that happening.

Re: SAHMs
I don't plan on going back to work when Julia is older. My mom was always home for us when we were in school, so I want to do the same for my kids. I work for my DH now at home P/T (paper work and stuff), so I probably will continue to do that.

Re: SAHMs
I have mixed feelings too. Right now I have no plans of going back any time soon although I have thought about doing something very p/t. I will probably go back to work once my kids are in school. In my field it should be pretty easy for me to find something where I can make my own hours so that I can be there to get my kids off to school and be home when they get off the bus.

Re: SAHMs
I plan on going back as soon as I can, that is as soon as Bryan is in school or even earlier if I have to, mainly because of money. My mom stayed home for 15years with us but financially she was able to do this. Unfortunately we are not in the same position, I wish we were because I would love to be there for my kids when they come home from school but I just cant see that happening. Im lucky I got to stay home this long...

Re: SAHMs
I am home for this year at least. I teach preschool and have the option of bringing Megan with me to work but I am not sure I want her in that setting due to sickness. We have to see how this year goes financially and then I will decide. I would love to stay home because my mom did with us and it was awesome. Everything is still up in the air but for now my job is open for me for next September, I just have to decide.

Re: SAHMs
I need a happy medium. I cant just be home (and I dont mean that in a bad way "just be home") but to me, I just have so many personal goals, I just got my Masters (education). As of now, Ive been subbing the past year, Im in no rush to get a job since I like the best of both worlds ITs so hard to decide on which side the grass is greener. So I really need a good combo of working and spending time with my kids/family. Thats the reason I chose to go into teaching. Although its a full time job (when I do get a job), I feel like there's so much time that I will be with my kids and be able to enjoy them growing up, etc.

Re: SAHMs
I honestly have no idea. I still work a wee bit with the company I was working for before I had my kids. It's only a few hours a month and I do it at home and on my time. While certain parts of me still miss work and the socialization aspect, I truly enjoy being home with my two. I had envisioned going to work when they were in school, but I really want to be around for them after school and such.
My company is great and have been really flexible with me, so there should be no reason why I wouldn't go back to the company (they said they would take me back no matter how long my maternity leave was). But at the same time, I am not sure I want to continue in the engineering consulting field. It can be very stressful and time consuming. But I have no idea of what I would do otherwise. I've been thinking of that for some time now.

Re: SAHMs
I'm torn on that one. I am very lucky to have a salary based p/t work from home job with benefits with my company, but honestly, I get pretty bitter a lot since not only am I am full time SAHM, but I also have to find 20 hours a week to handle my clients and my job. And I wish I could just get up in the morning, get dressed in some nice clothes and head off to work. But at the same time, I don't want to put my kids in daycare and want to be home for them all summer and after school. I've actually been pretty blah lately becasue I am home all the time and it is just getting to me. So it really depends on the day you ask me that question!
When Jack woke up at 5:30 this am cranky and throwing a tantrum I would've given anything to be able to drop him off at a daycare for the day and go to work in the adult world.
Its a really tough decision, because financially we can swing it without me working, so it feels selfish of me to want to work outside the home just for my own sanity and for us to have nice vacations and lots of Pottery Barn kids spending money!

This is how I feel as well. I want to be able to go on field trips and be involved with my children's activities. Hopefully, DH and I will have 3 kids and by the time the youngest is in school I will have been out of work for about 11 years or so. I can't really see myself going back after all that time.

I plan on working again when the girls are in school.
I constantlly look around to see if there any jobs I could do for a few hours at night. Just to kind of get out & earn some money. I haven't worked in 5 years.

Re: SAHMs
Well I think eventually I may have to in the future, but I am actually going back to school starting next sat for my certification in daycare, so either I can get a job in a daycare or watch kids at home..

Re: SAHMs
I work prt-time now ...My son is 2 1/2 and goes to school 2 1/2 days. I am due in Nov with baby #2. As soon as he is 18 months, he'll go to daycare as my son did. Then I'll look for a FT teaching job again. Financially, it just isn't working out for my husband and I, and we need the 2 incomes.

Re: SAHMs
I only work 12 hours a week so I'd like to consider myself a SAHM. This is the most I am going to work for a long time. I plan to be home with my DD as much as possible. I have a great career where I can temp, increase or decrease hours depending on our finances. I purposely picked it for the flexibility...

Re: SAHMs
I don't ever see myself going back FT to a traditional job. I'm planning on starting my own home based business once they are in school, but it will allow me the flexibility to participate in school events. I was going to start this business before I got pregnant, and then decided to put it off a few years so I can really dedicate time to getting it up and running properly.
