Which one? Dd has been going to deer park since she was a year old and I can't ask for a better teacher. She is almost 4 and is a great swimmer.

I've heard awful things about the one in Bellmore. I signed DD up for British Swim School- she hasn't started yet but it seems to have gotten better reviews.

I'm pretty convinced my DS got coxsackie from there. Also, our ped at the time recommended waiting till (I don't remember the age...).. but I'd check with your ped.

We actually go to the one in Bellmore, as do 4 of our friends children and we love it. I just signed DS up for the remainder of the year. You have to find an instructor you love, and then stick with him/her!

Re: Safe t swim
My DD went to the one in Smithtown and it was great!! She couldn't swim a lick and was terrified of the water and within just a year, she was diving in, swimming underwater, doing laps across the pool. It was worth every penny!

We go to the one in Commack and have had a great experience. If you decide to do it my son's teacher (who is amazing) just moved to the Coram location. Her name is Kalia and she is great!

we go to the one in new hyde park and it's ok. DD is 7 months and we do the group program. As a former lifeguard myself, I don't think the lessons are great at all. The two instructors are young girls and they sit and talk to each other the whole time and everyone just kinda does their own thing. It's not structured at all. Only one parent is allowed in, and it's only like 25 mins. I taught the baby and me classes when I was a lifeguard, and we did alot more. Not worth the money IMO. When our session is over, we are going to just bring her to the indoor pool by us and teach her ourselves. That way, we can both go in, and we aren't limited to the amount of time we can be in the pool

Re: Safe t swim
My sister takes her kids to the one in Levittown and has been happy and I am starting my kids there soon too. Right now they have a special, buy one session and get one free (so 12 classes overall). I will see how it goes at the end of the 12 weeks.

We are happy with our instructors at Oceanside. All 3 of my children take lessons.

I personally feel like it's a scam but that's just me. We had both kids in private lessons. DD (4yo at the time) developed a fear of the water after a few lessons, which she never had before. DS (2yo at the time) had a great time playing around in the water but it was basically a very high priced playtime. My older DD didn't even learn to doggy paddle after numerous lessons and of course my just turned 2yo wasn't learning to swim. I just don't see the point of spending so much for play time and I was obviously not happy with whatever caused my daughter to be afraid.

I don't think you had the right instructor. I had DS in lessons with 2 different instructors who taught him to go under the water, but that was about it. Then we had 1 makeup lesson with a different instructor and she had DS swimming in 1 lesson. Now I have him signed up with her for the rest of the year to get him swimming and just generally more comfortable around the water.

I took my daughter to the one in Coram for a few "Mommy and me" sessions around 8 months old and I didn't love it. It was extremely LOUD in the pool area. Like deafening loud. They have you in a small roped off area while there are other kids taking private lessons. Also, I didn't really feel like the pool was very clean.

Re: Safe t swim
Very happy with Oceanside. I will say that not all instructors are created equal, with that being said I have seen some newer instructors who started out soso have things click and become great. The teacher in me likes to give the newbies a chance lol.
I have been going with my 1 year olds since they were 4 months and they are very comfortable in the water and are showing early swimming skills that Are crossing over to other pool environments.
