SA???
So, dr said hubby should go for SA to test it out just in case. We never had a problem before, but we are exploring all options. This may be a very private subject, but what is it like??? Anyone have any experience I can share with dh??? We are not really discussing this with our friends and family, so I was hoping someone here could possibly help us out. Thanks!!!

Re: SA???
Ummm.. how do I say this... it's a very easy test... he mastebates and does his thing in a sterile cup which you can get from you Dr. or the lab where you would take the sample to. He can do it at home, or if you live far from the lab he can do it there since it has to be at the lab within a certain amount.

Re: SA???
Ok, so I get the gist. Dr gave me the cup for dh. But... are there certain "rules"??? Can we bd before or do we need to wait it out a few days? I guess we can call the lab... he actually made an appt for Monday morning but I don't think he asked any of the right questions... he may have been a bit embarrassed! It is so normal for me to talk to my OB about this stuff, especially after having my first child- I have no shame! But dh has never had to talk to anyone about this stuff so I think he felt funny asking his questions. KWIM?

He needs to not have ejaculated for 48 hours before his sample. That was the rule that DH was given.

We were also told not for about 48 hours before, but also that he should've ejaculated at least within the last 72 hours. If they go too long without ejaculating your sample could turn up a higher proportion of damaged sperm.

Re: SA???
When you get the cup from the doctor, they usually give you directions at that time, probably written down.
I know, TMI, but can't use gels, etc.
And the sample has to be to the lab within an hour of "producing it".

Re: SA???
It has to be *manual* also, as saliva kills sperm.
ETA: If you live close enough to the office, you can bring it from home. If it will take you more than about 1/2 hour to get there- I would suggest he do it AT the office.
