?s regarding next steps
I'm hiding due to lurkers but need to ask some questions and figured you ladies might be able to help me.
DH and I are an older couple (mid/late-40's). We decided when we got married that if we had children, it would be great, if not, that was fine too and we wouldn't take any "drastic" measures to have children.
Of course, now we've changed our minds. I honestly don't know where to begin with all of this. I realize that getting pregnant at my age would be difficult (we've been trying for about 2 months). I'm still very regular in my cycle. Would you start by seeing your regular OB/GYN or go straight to a RE. We have great insurance that doesn't require a referral.
What would your first steps be?

I would go right to an RE just based on age. I see no reason to waste time with an OB if you don't need referrals. OB and RE would do the same basic testing at first. If you go to your OB and they find a problem , you'll have to go to RE anyway and a lot of the time they just redo the tests themselves.

Go directly to a RE. Do not waste a lot of time thinking about what doctor to see just get the process started. In the mean time use opk to help identify your most fertile days. DH's friend is 46 and his SO is 44 and they conceived naturally. It can happen but I would have a RE check that everything looks good.
