rude comment from a coworker

i told my co-worker that i was pregnant and he congratulated me. He then asked if DH and I will be finding out the gender and i said that we will be.

He then said something about how it's just so much better to wait and how it's the only surprise you'll ever really have and blah blah blah Chat Icon

it really annoyed me! i have nothing against Team Green people and totally respect all your decisions - and i just wish my coworker would respect mine as well!

My response to him was that i'll be just as surprised at the sono when they tell me the gender there. I would've preferred to have punched him instead!

ok, vent over. thanks for listening Chat Icon

I HATE when people impost their thoughts on this on others!

I had a convo a few years ago with MIL and it came up that DH and I always said we would find out. She was like really, oh but its such a nice surprise, really? are you sure?. YES, we are sure. She asked if we would find out when we announced we were expecting and I said yes, but she didn't complain. Especially with twins- we need to know how to decorate. I think she knows me better now not to start with me Chat Icon

To each is own.

Re: rude comment from a coworker

I'd just say "what a cool thing for you -- I'm a planner though!!" (since that's how I feel about it)

I totally see it from both points of view, but I'd never tell someone they need to do one way or the other. I LOVE knowing! I feel like I bond better with the baby this way. Plus I really am a planner!!!

Don't let them bug you. It's just one of a zillion billion trillion ridiculous things people will say to you while pregnant and then as a parent.

This was my response as well whenever I was asked why.

I could have written this! I was on the fence for a while but DH is so adamant about finding out and he convinced me too. At this point now we are both sooo super excited and are counting down the days to the anatomy scan. But I have gotten lots of lectures from friends who didn't find out Chat Icon - everyone has their own choice! Just like everyone has an opinion Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am team Chat Icon and I always got comments like "I can't believe you don't want to know" or " how are you going to decorate or buy clothes...etc.....

One nice co worker even pointed out that my gray hairs were showing.... I had to explain that I stopped coloring my hair while pregnantChat Icon

People love to tell pregnant women their opinions!

Re: rude comment from a coworker

I feel like no matter what your response is to the "are you going to find out" question, someone is going to have something to say. Screw'emChat Icon

We found out with DD b/c we had all boys in the family for the last 10 years and were anxious to see if it was a girl.

We are finding out this time b/c it's been so long since I had DD and my sister needs to know if she's throwing me a shower or a sprinkle.

If this one is a boy (and we have one of each) then we will not find out with any subsequent pregnancies.
