I'll try to locate a online chart that tells you more about the breed. But I do know this about them. They are in the top 10 most intelligent breeds. I think they rate number 9 in the world.

They are very loyal dogs, they can be defensive of their owners.

Re: Rotweillers

Anyone I know that has had a rottie has definitely had to put a lot of thought into the training. They are incredibly intelligent, and are loyal to their owner. Of course, like any other animal, if not trained properly can become a difficult pet. Because of their size they can be perceived as dangerous if not trained properly. They are very loving dogs, and have such a great face & stature.

Good luck!

Re: Rotweillers

I don't know a whole lot about them in general, but I can tell you that my BF has had two.

One died a couple years ago at 13 and was an amazing dog. She was very protective of the house and family. My friend had her first child when Mercedes was 9 years old and there were no issues whatsoever.
The second she got after Mercedes passed and she is just a love. I don't think she would hurt a fly, she's just wants to love everyone (and go for a ride in their carChat Icon ). I've even taken her into my house for the weekend and she was great with Misty and being at our house. She is truly the best dog.

So, if you give them lots of love and make sure to train them, I think Rotties can be wonderful pets!Chat Icon

Re: Rotweillers

I have one, she is 6 now and the sweetest dog in the entire world. She has a wonderful temperment and loves kids.

She came from a rescue at about 2-3 years old, so she was a little skiddish with men at first b/c she had been abused, but after about 3-4 weeks she was fine. She is a little protective with me around certain men, not family or friends, delivery men, the garbage men. She doesn't go after them she just stands between me and them.

The fur is not bad at all, she barely sheds.

Re: Rotweillers

My Aunt actually got from Rottie Rescue and they love their dog, Belle. She is great with the kids and loves everyone..They got her when she was one. When I looked I wanted a female puppy and none were listed but I see they have many Rotties on there now.
Shedding is really none. I have a cat that sheds more than the dog. I swiffer all the time Chat Icon
Jasmine starts puppy classes in Sept. She went once for a private lesson and the women said "they are one of the best breeds to train" they are normally a working dog so they like to be stimulated a lot. They love long walks and training. Very protective of their family and weary of strangers but LOVE everyone. She gets upset when people don't stop to pet her.
GOOD LUCK! I hope you post pics when and if you get one. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My friend has one, Diesel is his name and he is. He is also the worlds biggest baby, looking at him he is HUGE but pet him on the belly and he will love you forever. They had him in training classes, he understands only German commands (friends FH is German) and he is so loyal. He does not do well with other dogs, they keep him away from dog parks and things, (we had a problem one night out with him and another dog) he is good with the kiddies also.

Here he is at 7months.

Re: Rotweillers

I would definitely try a rescue group first. There are a large amount of Rotties for adoption. Go to petfinder.com & do a search.

If you want the "list of questions" to ask a breeder, FM me & I will be happy to forward it to you.

Re: Rotweillers

My friend had one and he was the biggest mush especially for kids.
He trained pretty easily and was very loyal.
He did have some skin issues and ear problems as he got older but he was still a trooper about it.

Re: Rotweillers

I had a rottie with an ex-boyfriend. He ended up keeping him Chat Icon but he was my baby. He was the sweetest dog ever. He was a german rottie as opposed to the american rottie. He was a little love, really. The only trouble we had with him is he'd get really jealous over kids if I held them. He would sort of nip at their feet. He wouldn't bite them or hurt them, but he didn't want me to hold them, I'll tell you that much. Other than that, I loved that dog so much, and what a mush!

Re: Rotweillers

my family had a rotti-lab mx and what a doll she is! She's so wonderful, smart, funnny, loving, gentle, she just wants all the love and attention she can get. However, that's a mix with a lab so not sue if that mad a big difference. BUT she's gigantic! I think she's aroun 150 and now since i've gotten my pup- she looks like a horse to me, hehe. here's a funny pic of her:

Did this thread convince you yet?? I hope you get the Rottie. FYI my pup is great with kiddies, I have my little cousins over all the time and she loves to play with the kids. She is also looking for another Rottie friend. I wanted a puppy to train..LOTS of work but it is paying off, she is great!!!

Sorry edited to add, we got her from a certified breeder, German Bloodlines, we even met the mother and father too! She was not that bad since i hear people can pay up to 1K

Re: Rotweillers

Thank you. I was just wondering about your rottie. How is she doing? The picture is ADORABLE!!!

I have a 20 month rottie and he is AMAZING! They are very very smart and loyal pets. Shedding stink! 2x a year it's no stop fur. However we have the Furminator and it really helps. I'll be willing to answer any questions. I love talking about him. Pictures of him are in my profile. Oh and he's an energetic one but with children he just knows to calm down. I Chat Icon him!
