Roosevelt Field Mall and Santa

Is it true that there is just this pod like thing with no Christmas decorations?

If it is, I can't......Really? It is rumored that they don't want to offend people with decorations.

saw something going around on FB about it. Seems so ridiculous. A picture was posted and it does look like some futuristic pod. rumor has it that management said its supposed to be a winter scene as opposed to Christmas.

It doesnt make sense... how would decorations be offensive, yet Santa isnt?

Re: Roosevelt Field Mall and Santa

Okay, seriously??? Santa Claus, the biggest symbol of Xmas next to the Xmas tree, cannot be seen in a Christmas scene at CHRISTMAS??!!! I hope that this is not true and he's not sitting in a "winter scene" so as not to upset any of the lunatic, hypersensitive, ridiculously self absorbed people that can't handle seeing Santa surrounded by Xmas scenery at CHRISTMAS time because it "offends them". The world we live in. SMH!!!!

I wish as a society we'd stop catering to all of this nonsense. It's out of control the way we try to make EVERYONE happy and appease every single person as to not "offend". People need to toughen up and get over themselves. Chat Icon Chat Icon

This was my thought as well.
How is it possible that the Christmas scenery is offensive but the big guy himself is not - it doesn't make much sense. Maybe it's a cost thing? That pod can have any bknd so it's good through all the seasons plus for any photographs. Maybe they will be doing photography there. So bday pictures, family pics etc etc

I find this disgusting, the mall she be ashamed allowing this nonsense to pass for Xmas and Santa. I hope NOBODY stops for a picture and they lose a $hit-ton of money!

I saw this on FB. Since it's a Simon owned mall, I wonder if other malls in the area are doing the same thing? Has anyone been to Smithaven?

It looks like something they can project images onto.

The only place I saw that management said it was offensive was the one post, so I'm not going to get bent out of shape until I hear more about it.

I haven't been yet but they always have the nicest Santa display. I'll flip if I see this $hit there. I'm actually heading over there later, I'll let you know!

Oh please, it doesn't look like a glacier. And there is not a single Xmas decoration surrounding Santa. Them saying it's a "winter glacier" is just code for "we're catering to the big babies of the world who will be offended by a Xmas tree". It's ugly and NOT festive in any way.

This is what I put on my fb page

This is ridiculous !! Oh wait, I mean all the comments I'm reading about this. I'm sorry but did Simon send out a press release stating they are doing this because people find the old set up offensive? I mean really, SANTAS there!! Looks like they went a different direction and people aren't pleased. Don't like it, go elsewhere. Someone else might, why mess it up for them.

It looks hideous, but I can't find anything that states that they are doing this as so not to offend anyone.

Maybe they are just going for an (ill-advised) futuristic set this year.

I didnt say it was a good idea but its not being done because Christmas is offensive to people.... why would Santa be there? why is a tree offensive but Santas not?

Roosevelt Field Mall and Santa

While I agree it looks pretty ugly, I am not sure it was done because of people being offended. If they were that offended they would have just stopped Santa entirely. Now if it is done just because they are trying to be ultra PC, yes that is ridiculous. But I don't think that is the case here. We will be taking the kids to Hicks for Santa pictures this year though- because regardless of the reason it just doesn't look nice. lol

I wonder if it's because people were taking pictures when "Santa" was not there?? I saw this being done in other malls last year. "Taking advantage" of the holiday decorations without paying.

I wasn't addressing my comment to you specifically, Chat Icon , I just meant that sounds like a lame reason from the mall to explain why Santa is sitting in an ugly pod.

Santa is still going to be there, folks. They changed the decor, big whoop. Go somewhere else if you don't like it.

No. Smithhaven has the traditional setup. The glacier experience is only at certain malls.

Is it possible that the setup is not complete? I mean, it's only 11/7, perhaps they are still decorating?

In the pictures, you don't really see much of the surroundings. It looks like it might be ok. Hopefully it's a pretty color chair. I think I saw something about a light show on the white glacier thing.
I think they're just trying a different look this year.
