Roof question?

We had our house built last year and moved in when it was completed in April.

Since we moved in, we have had shingles fall off of our house on approximately 5 separate occasions.

One time we had a leak to the 2nd floor (they said it had something to do w/ the chimney / vent from the bathroom not being sealed properly).

We have a 1 year warranty on our house but my question is - do you think i should demand a new roof?

Is this type of thing common? DH seems to think it is no big deal (but he is not handy at all). Since I noticed there is a shingle missing now it has rained 2 days! I *never* remember roof shingles falling off of my Mom's house... Do you think I should demand a new roof from our builder? I have spoken to other neighbors who have used the same builder and NO ONE has had the problems we have had w/ our roof.

Thanks for any advice / input - it is really appreciated as DH and I have no clue about these things!

Being that it's a new roof I dontthink it's normal at all. The roof should last you a good 25-30 years before shingles start coming off!

If it were me, Id demand a new roof or at least have them replace all the shingles for now and if it happens again, then Id demand a new roof.

I think our roof has a 10 year warranty on it. They told me initially that it was because the house was built in the "winter" that the shingles didn't seal properly and that they needed to bake in the summer sun. But hello - summer is LONG over! And shingles are still falling off!

I am so mad about this! Chat Icon

that is unacceptable, and if they tell you anything different tell them you're hiring a lawyer.

Definately have it replaced or fixed. There is no way shingles should fall off if it's a new install.
