Re: road trip help
We're headed South to Disney in August and I'll probably regret it but can't wait to stop at Waffle House.

Re: road trip help
I pass through Roanoke all the time, not much. I would say to drive and stop in the Smoky Mountains, Gaitlinburg, Pigeon Forge area, much more to see and do.
Nashville: -Country music hall of fame -Johnny Cash Museum -visit the replica of the Partheon -Cheekwood Gardens -Nashville Zoo -walk up and down Broadway to see all the bars, Honky Tonk Central has great food and music -tour of the Ryman -visit the Opryland -Cooters Place, Dukes of Hazard museum -they can go to the old Marathon Motors building that has the store from American Pickers in there...plus in the same building is a cool brewery...just an overall cool building to see
If they stop in Lynchburg TN....go to the Jack Daniels factory, great tour there!

road trip help
There are some nice bars downtown Roanoke at Center in the Square - they are fairly new (ok, well, not that new but, they weren't there when I was in college)...
The Hotel Roanoke is very nice and close to downtown but, the Sheraton Roanoke is also in a decent location - right off of 581 between 81 and downtown. There are also a lot of other chain hotels in the area of the airport and just north and south of 581 (some in Salem).
For Nashville - we stayed at the Hilton downtown - it was a great location. Besides the things that DMT said, we enjoyed going to a session at the Bluebird Cafe and having breakfast at the Pancake Pantry.
