Road sign - for child with down syndrome
My dh and I met a nice couple tonight, who live on a dangerous curved road. They mentioned wanting a sign for the road and I was wondering how you go about obtaining one. I'm guessing calling the town?
Another neighbor close by but on a different street has an 'autistic child area' sign. But he is older and I'm wondering if it has to do with their age and walking?

Yes, call the town I grew up on a long street and people would speed. My Dad called the town and asked for speed limit and children at play signs to be installed. I believe he may have needed to get the neighbors to sign something in agreement.

Those signs don't do anything...no one slows down. We have Autistic and hearing impaired signs in our neighborhood, along with the "children at play" ones, and people still drive like maniacs.

The signs do nothing. People don't even stop at stop signs let alone a sign for a disabled child. And I would also have her think about what her child will think when they get older if there is as sign by their house telling everyone they have a disability. My daughter (who is autistic) would be very upset to see that every day. If she really wants one though, contact the town. They will put one up.

Road sign - for child with downs
It may not help much but it doesn't hurt. My cousin has down syndrome and when she was younger there were definitely incidents where she got out of the house or backyard and it was scary at times.
Thanks

Agreed. No one cares. The only thing that will slow anyone down would be speed bumps and even that is debatable, though I would LOVE to see all the asshats bottom out their cars.

I know many Autistic kids that elope and wander, and will dart into streets. Sadly the signs don't make people drive slower in those areas though.

Yup, I'll be standing at the corner bus stop with a group of 8 elementary children, and people blow through the stop signs like they dont exist. It's terrifying how much people don't give a sh*t.

It's infuriating but I also don't think the signs would do anything but I love this idea about a speed bump. See if the town will install one.
