We got into an accident with our infant dd in the car a few weeks ago. It's a good thing I was so hysterical because I wanted have killed the guy with my bare hands.

I am actually fearful to drive with dd and I am not a nervous driver. Never, ever have I seen the caliber of idiocy that I have seen on LI. Never. Not anywhere. It's a big part of why I hate living here so much. DH always says "when we move....." and I have to remind him that we may not make it out alive before then. No one can drive. Though, no one can take the train like anything but a savage, either. Modes of transportation just aren't a strong point on LI, huh?

I hate to break the news to you but Long Island is not bad compared to other areas. Florida for instance is WAY worse. In Florida they drive way more reckless on average, there is just as much road rage, you have the seniors that can't drive period, and you have more spots for accidents as you have plenty of left turn lanes with no signals.

I got into my first car accident in 20 years while I was in Florida last year. Was in a rental going straight and minding my own business in the left lane and this dumb ***** makes a left turn from a left turn only lane going the opposite direction and t-bones me. I call the cops and she actually admits to the cop that she was screwing around on her phone while making the turn. I was lucky her insurance paid for the rental damages since I didn't take the additional insurance on my rental.

Trust me when I say Long Island is MUCH better than the rest of the country.

It's awful! I had a guy on a motorcycle right by my window screaming at me with my baby in the car. I told him to shut up or I'll run him over. I said in another thread no road trips this year because the traffic is disgusting and everyone is just so aggravated / angry I prefer to stay local this summer. Everywhere we go, anytime we leave or come back we sit in traffic with crazy people Chat Icon

There are just SO. MANY. PEOPLE. To get somewhere that should take 10 minutes takes 30, easily.

I walk to the train in the morning, .5 mile from my house, and I am almost mowed down daily. People are in such a rush (and usually it's moms late dropping their kids to school - I feel like I can say this because I'm a mom who is always running late too . . . ) but geesh!! Slow down! Take a breath!

I am going to have to agree Florida is sooo bad the drivers are out of control, and all along the highways are signs for accident and injury lawyers.
Most drivers have no insurance, and are extremely reckless, no one uses a turn signal down there. The past year I have spent a few months down there for the winter.

Agree on all points. Accident attorney billboards are everywhere. UR right about the number of uninsured, I'm sure that's much higher.

Being in the south you also have your share of rednecks in their huge tricked out pickups. They drive like total assholes most of the time. And be careful with road rage with them, many of them are probably carrying. You think road rage up here is bad, down there you run a good chance of getting shot.

You just have no idea how bad it is up here until you experience driving down there.
