Riccola and Vicks Vapor Rub. Safe?
I was sick a few weeks ago and DH got me a bag of Riccola cough drops. I only have 4-5 over the course of 2-3 days because I didn't like them but now I'm sick again with a chest cold. I just googled, just to be sure I can have them. I didn't before because with my last pregnancy because the pharmacist said that cough drops and vicks were safe but I had Halls last time and Riccola has different stuff in it so I wanted to be sure. I see on Babycenter that it says they are NOT safe because they have these 3 herbs in them that are not pregnancy safe and someone also said that Vicks wasn't safe because of the menthol but then someone else answered that it was safe because you don't ingest the menthol, but then theirs menthol in cough drops so is that bad? But then some one answered that the lady who posted it is full of cra p. That there wasn't enough menthol or herbs in either to do any harm.
Now I'm worried that my baby is going to have birth defects... ugh does anyone know?

It says right on the vicks vapor rub not to use if you are PG.
I will call your Dr before you take anything and don't trust what you read online.

My PCP said it was fine to use Vicks which I have been using for the past week. But like PP said, ask your MD first. She/he may tell you something else.

Vicks was a lifesaver when I had bad allergies while pg. I'd put it right under my nostrils and it would open up my nasal passages right away. Such a relief! I don't see why you couldn't use it; you use a pea-sized drop topically and it's not going into your bloodstream.
All medications say to ask your doc if you're pregnant or bf'ing so they can cover their butts should something go wrong (even if their meds didn't cause it; they don't want to get sued).

My Vicks is CVS brand and doesn't say not to use if pregnant, only says consult a dr like everything else. My last pregnancy I asked the pharmacist and they said it was okay. I just questioned it after what I read that's why I came on here to see what other drs had said.

Re: Riccola and Vicks Vapor Rub. Safe?
Called my midwife this morning. She said that Vicks and cough drops are fine as well as regular, plain Robitussin.
