REVIEW: 3day Potty Training(long)
The good, the bad and the ugly…
DS= 2 years, 2 days Did it work: Yes BUT…I had to make some adjustments (I will explain as I go on). Rewards: (1) sticker for pee; (2) stickers for poop. When stickers got old…the “potty fairy” was invented. She would bring (2) M&Ms for pee and (5) M&Ms for poop
If you want “this” plan to work then you really need to give it your all. The first few days consisted of getting up and staying in my pajamas, not showered, until 8pm when both my children went to sleep. I’d get up and do the same routine over for the next week. Of course you can get up before your children and shower/get dressed but my children get up at 430-500am so I did not want to get up any earlier. This is what worked for me. I took the week off of work because I was determined to potty train my son. I do think I needed the entire week but in the end my son was potty trained.
I followed Lora Jensen’s 3 day potty training until Day 2.5 then I had enough. Too many accidents and it wasn’t “clicking” with my son as it was suppose to. I sent message after message to Lora’s help page and they were helpful but I needed more. It was then that I logged onto LI and I got the help I needed from another mother (Cookiemomster). She told me to put my DS on the potty every 30mins and let him sit there for 5mins. If he goes…GREAT! If not, then bring him back in 15mins. I tweaked this a little bit because I learned over the last 2.5 days that my son pees about every 45-60mins. Sure enough I’d watch him and around 45mins he’d have a twitch. Then about 5-10mins later I’d see the pee pee dance. We’d rush to the potty and there it was…he peed. This was the beginning of a new day and a happier me.
Day 1: threw out diapers and went cold turkey with underwear; peed on the potty a few times; had a couple of accidents…when I saw him “dribble” I’d run him to the potty and he’d finish dribbling; had a pee accident while napping; no poop.
Day 2: REFUSED to use the potty!!! when he’d start to pee I’d run him to the potty and he wouldn’t finish. This made for MANY accidents today. The only good is that he pooped on the potty. The 3 day potty training wants the potty in the bathroom but I moved mine to the kitchen. I really wanted him to poop and I thought this was more important at the time. I sat him down with a book in the corner and told him that I would not watch him. 5mins later…he pooped!!! That was the only good for today…there were pee accidents everywhere. I wanted to cry and at one point I kicked the potty across the floor. That’s when Cookiemomster gave me some advice which worked for my son. I then put my son on the potty every 45-60mins and he peed. I stopped all liquids 2 hours prior to bedtime and I would make sure that he peed 2 times before bed. He woke up at 1am and he went potty and then woke up the next day dry.
Day 3: he did pretty well today. He was on the potty anywhere from 30-60mins; woke up dry from his nap and went potty; had 6 accidents…1 being a poop accident and 3 of these accidents all being within 30mins of each other; woke up during the night wet.
Day 4: woke up wet; 3 pee accidents throughout the day and woke up from his nap wet; pooped on the potty; accident around 130am
Day 5: woke up dry; 3 accidents today…2 pee/ 1 poop.
Day 6: WOW!!! I think it may have “clicked”. He had no accidents and he woke up from his nap and bedtime dry.
Day 7 – 15: He has been doing really well. We have had a few accidents…somedays none, some 1 and some 4. He is holding his potty in for long periods of time. We’ve been out and he’ll use the public bathroom like a champ when I take him. I have to hold him and that’s challenging but he has yet to have an accident while we’ve been out. If we’re out I know that within an hour he’ll need to pee so I’ve been gauging it that way.
Day 16: WHAT HAPPENED?!?!? All of a sudden he’s having accidents. I’ve heard of potty reversions but are you kidding me. He’s peeing everywhere. He wet the bed twice throughout the night and he’s already had a couple of accidents today. I heard this is normal so I hope I can get this under control. I’ll keep you posted.
All is all I think the 3 day potty training is essential because I learned my child’s body signals and how often he needs to be brought to the potty. He still does not tell me that he has to go potty but I know when he does his pee pee dance that is his way of communicating with me that he has to potty. I would use this again with my second child and I would recommend to friends. I think it has good guidelines but my son was not potty trained in 3 days…I did learn his habits in 3 days and then potty training took off from there.
Not sure if this really helps anyone but I know when I was searching for potty training I wanted to hear it all…not just that it’ll happen when they’re ready. Best of luck and please be patient…it won’t happen overnight!

Re: REVIEW: 3day Potty Training(long)
Thanks for the review. I plan to start between christmas and new years. I too have the 3day potty training. I tried a few months ago and lasted a half a day. Hoping I last longer this time.
