No. There is no normal life here now, lol. I did go out after curfew (10PM) yesterday, though. I had to mail something and forgot, so I just drove to the place to drop it off. Not sure if that falls under "unavoidable reasons." Chat Icon

We just got tired of the dangling carrot. It was 2 weeks then 2 months then another 2 months. We did what we were supposed to. Now we are living our lives. Those at risk are vaccinated. We have treatment options. The way my kids changed was very concerning. It was time.

Same. I don't feel nervous at all. I still wear my mask where required and keep my distance in stores as much as I can. I'm huge on hand washing (but always have been)
There is a limit of how long this can go on for. The odds of survival are in my favor even if I did catch it.
My mental health couldn't take anymore and to be honest THAT was the bigger risk to me.
ETA- I've been eating indoors since last June when Indoor was allowed. And seeing family since last May as well. I've also been on local vacations- Jersey Shore, etc all year. I haven't flown but not out of fear- out of the inconvenience of it with quarantines etc

Same. We’ve gone to Hershey Park , Atlantic City, jakes 58...we do what we need to out in public and go about our daily lives.

Has Jakes increased the amount of people that can gamble? I know the hours are to 4am now, and while my hubby and I don’t usually sit next to each other many times as we like certain machines, I wondered how crowded it gets.

Judging by the parking lot it looks full capacity every time I pass!
I did hear that capacity was being increased for things like movie theaters. bowling alleys and I think casinos soon (if not already) so it should be increasing

It was fine May-November. November is when things started and then on December 16th is when it got stricter. Then they started loosening up in February and then the third wave hit, which we are in the middle of.

They can't get the vaccine rolled out correctly and then there have been problems with the AZ vaccine. That's what's going on.

Your numbers are slightly higher. I don't get it. Intensive care beds are going down, so I guess they are remaining cautious. But our numbers are increasing, so every day things change. I can't keep up. I think because the surrounding countries are not doing so great, and they don't want to close the borders completely.

I'm done. So done. Projection is that I should have my vaccine by September. Maybe earlier if I get this job I have been interviewing for.

Resuming “normal” life

My children go to school, play sports, go to dance and gymnastics, piano lessons, etc. They have outdoor playdates with friends and we spent a day in Manhattan over the spring break. We did the MONH and Central Park. We are renting a house on LBI in July and going to Lake Harmony in PA in August. We also booked Disney for December, but we purchased travel insurance incase we don't feel comfortable as it gets closer.
We have not done indoor dining yet- however in May we have two family parties being held at indoor restaurants- a college graduation party and a first communion. Those will be our first times at an indoor restaurant since March of 2020.
My oldest turns 10 in May, we are allowing him to have a few friends over the Friday night closest to his birthday for a firepit, bbq, and outdoor fun. My youngest will be 5 in June, she is having an outdoor spa party with about 8 friends from her Pre-K class.
The only thing I will not be doing yet is indoor playdates- the weather is nice now so I don't see a reason for it. Once October/November hits, I will reevaluate.

I was at lunch at a nice restaurant this week and the owner, who I know as we are regulars there, was agonizing over his reservation book as we were leaving (he's old school, no Open Table, lol). He said so many people are wanting to come in and he has so many regulars he wants to accommodate but is having issues. I asked what his capacity is now- he said 75% but it doesn't really matter because he needs the tables 6 feet apart so even if they allowed 100% capacity he doesn't have the space to have tables that far apart and be at 100% or even 75% capacity.
Now that the weather is better he is going to open an outdoor space- just to increase his room and capacity. That's why so many places are doing outdoors under tents and enclosures that are no better than indoor- it's not for safety, it's for increased capacity so they can make enough money to survive.

It’s a tough thing as you want to accommodate everyone but then you don’t want to get in trouble also.

I am still concerned about my DS missing school if he gets exposed.

This is everything to me. My DD is quarantined for the third time this year because a kid in her class tested positive. She has missed SO MUCH school and I am drowning at work. I was hyperventilating most of the day on Wednesday. Luckily my MIL took her today (all the adults in our family are vaccinated).

To all those who don’t want to follow the rules, at this point I don’t even care if you believe in the science. Please, please just think of us working moms with little ones. We’re not ok, our kids aren’t ok. Our hell still hasn’t ended.

For whatever reason, indoor dining seems to be the thing people are most hesitant to do. We've been eating out since last May and I've noticed only a slight uptick in the number of diners from a year ago despite the increase in capacity restrictions. I think many people are still sticking with take out for now. I feel for all these restaurants, it's tough.

The quarantining is ridiculous IMO for kids who have to miss so much school. There has to be a better solution. Why not just get tested? I would think if you are around someone that much and by the time they announce it, a test could tell you if you were sick too.
I wonder how many kids actually turned up positive that had to quarantine. I have never heard that statistic yet.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon This continues to be so difficult. My child's Pre-K class was remote for a full month (though spring break week was included in that, so 3 school weeks). First her class was remote, then just when they were ready to go back, the whole school went remote. It is frustrating when people think they are above the rules, but when their family gets COVID, so many other people are affected, not just their family.
My children did nothing but school the first half of the school year. No activities, parties, or playdates. We didn't go on vacation. We didn't want to be the cause of a school closure.

Resuming “normal” life

The only reason my dh and I have felt comfortable resuming normal activities is because we both had covid last spring (and we couldn't quarantine away from our kids since we had it at the same time and our kids are too little to take care of themselves, so we're pretty certain our kids would have developed antibodies). I still tested positive for antibodies a couple months ago, and we also plan to get vaccinated. Before we got covid we were terrified, so if we hadn't have had it, we would not have resumed normal activities until getting vaccinated.

It’s funny as I never saw much hesitation when going to places but have heard people talk about not feeling comfortable. Never felt worried at all myself and glad more will support their local places.

Yeah many places seem to be packed. I wonder if anyone is actually going by the percentages they are supposed to.

It’s funny as I never saw much hesitation when going to places but have heard people talk about not feeling comfortable. Never felt worried at all myself and glad more will support their local places.

I was hesitant early on because they knew so little about how COVID was transmitted, I didn't want anyone touching my food. But we moved on from that, we missed eating out.

Almost none. I emailed the principal and told her I want to see the data they base their decisions on. Crickets.

They don’t let them test out after 5 days. Believe me, I’ve tried.

Maybe it’s specific to wear I live, I don’t know. They’re all a bunch of nutbags. They wear 15 masks in public and then let their kids have slumber parties at home. Which I don’t even care about but then don’t send your flucking kid to school to screw everyone else.

No. There is no normal life here now, lol. I did go out after curfew (10PM) yesterday, though. I had to mail something and forgot, so I just drove to the place to drop it off. Not sure if that falls under "unavoidable reasons." Chat Icon

Highlight of my week.

Oh last week, I got to go to their version of Best Buy here. But that was only because I had had a negative test within 24 hours, so I was allowed in.

You need a negative test to shop in a store?
Over a year later?

Holy God, what is going on there?

Makes no sense as it seems these lockdown don’t work.

No, based on Sweden, they work.

https://www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-europe-lockdown-effectiveness-graphics/

But this is a virus that will never go away. I honestly do not believe the numbers anymore and it is turning into a control

Yes I am serious. Meaning that it is so bad that everyone is dying and infected. It is sad when anyone dies.

Active cases are 307,000
Closed cases 2,946,866
Deaths 81,866

Population 83 million

Less than 4% are infected. Not sure I would constitute that for such a severe lockdown

Wow yeah that is wrong. The entire thing is a mess and the kids are the ones suffering.

See, I saw the opposite. This restaurant owner was having issues fitting everyone in who wanted to dine indoors.
Saturday night we went out to dinner and had to wait even though we had a reservation and also noticed the parking lot was so much more full than previous weeks...we had to drive around a park far away.
I feel like restaurants are getting more crowded in recent weeks.
