another vote for 21 Main - LOVE that place 
Cafe Joelle has great food, but it's very noisy in there - so not really romantic IMO

I know you said south shore, but if they dont mind driving up north to Port Jeff, Toast on Main St is great. They have really good fondue, plus their regular menu is great too.

I second Tellers, it's so nice.
I would also recommend Don Ricardo's in Babylon if they like Mexican.
Or maybe Cafe Joelle in Sayville, that's a really cute place.
